Do your own research as to which surgeons are available to you and of those, which one is the best. Your local uro may refer you to the greatest surgeon of all time, or he may refer you to a hack who hasn't seen a penile implant since med school. Arm yourself with the knowledge of who you want cutting on your dick.

I went with my urologist. We talked about his qualifications and the number of implants he has done but most importantly his approach and I felt comfortable with it. I had viewed many of the videos available on You Tube regarding the surgeries of the big implanters and I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted--to include vertical penoscrotal incision and the AMS 700 IPP. We talked about the CX vs the LGX and he chose in the OR based upon examination of my anatomy. We did not talk about pump placement, but I am really happy with the positioning. My advice--do your research and have an idea of what you want and then find the surgeon who will do it that way or explain to you why his approach is better. But--you are the one that needs to be both excited about getting your sex life back and happy with the outcome.

BTW--we discussed that the recovery time for a vertical penoscrotal incision is a longer than infrapubic, but I was good with that because I really did not want a visible scar and I was also having additional work done in my scrotum with the implant surgery.

Note: I highly recommend watching the videos on YouTube to become comfortable with the procedure and the expected outcomes.

You're damn right. I asked during my first surgeon visit. A reputable surgeon will answer you. I got what I felt was a very good answer. His number & candor matched what several ft members had sent to me by private message.
Tell me, what good is doing research if you can't ask questions?

DEFINITELY! AND you are more specifically going to ask about how many penile implants they have done, the infection rate, complications, and patient satisfaction rates. Look the doctor up online. My doctor said, one of my goals is to get you closed up as soon as possible to keep the infection rate low. Don't get locked into a male doctor either--there are more and more women who are doing these surgeries.

And, if at the end of the session you are not comfortable with the doctor or their answers--find another doctor.

Rjdoan, very well said. Your body, your money. You can pick who operates on you. As for a woman surgeon. I don't see any reason that a woman couldn't do a good job. There is even a chance that they might be naturally inclined to try doing the best that can be done for you.

Thank you all who ever responded to this I'm just asking due to the fact they looked up my doctor but there's no record on them as in reviews and I don't want to assume that he is not a good doctor due to the fact that he has no reviews so I'll first ask questions and then if I don't like it then I'll try something else

First, what country are you in. Doctor reviews might not be common in all countries.
Second, not doing research & asking questions does not guarantee that you'll get bad results. But I'm sure that doing it increases your chance of good results.
I've read a member say that while interviewing a surgeon he said. Sure I can do it, how difficult can it be? I'm sure that you can tell by reading FT that some surgeons have enough experience to of learned the tricks of a successful implantation. Do you want to be part of a drs learning curve??
Ask questions, you're interviewing him for an operation that means a lot to you. Basically the future of your sex life. Ask questions, don't be afraid to seek out a different doctor if you don't like the answers or he won't reply.

I'm probably the poster child for how not to choose your surgeon, but it turned out fine against all odds.

My surgeon was my urologist when I started injections.
The first thing he ever recommended was that I get an implant.

That was my last resort and I doubted that I'd ever take that final step.

I've been reading most posts on Frank Talk and a poster who went to my doc office said he'd been implanted by my surgeon and got a blood infection and almost croaked. He did have it cleansed and removed and later replaced by the same doc.

He stopped posting and never answered any of my PMs to him.
That was the only other patient I knew about.
My surgeon did give a good vibe but eventually I considered going to Baltimore to have Dr Kramer do it but it just seemed too much trouble, so I decided to let Dr Avila do it.

It all turned out fine and I did learn that he did quite a few implants yearly.
86 years
Inject testosterone weekly.
Implant on 1/22/19 by Dr Avila.
Scrotal, hor. incision just over 1"
18cm AMS 700 CX, 3.5cm RTE 100cc res
Gleason 6 prostate cancer. Monitoring it for now.
Update: On my last biopsies the cancer wasn't found.
