Medical Bracelet For Airports

Postby Vagabond127 » Sat Feb 13, 2021 2:33 pm

Has anyone used a medical bracelet to explain why the device set off the metal detector? Having something engraved on it like: INTERNAL METAL MEDICAL DEVICE or something to that effect.
Implanted with Titan 1/15/19 with Dr. Eid.

I have a med alert tag on a necklace that has my health conditions, medications and IPP on it in case I am in an accident so medical workers will know. I carry my device card in my wallet with info on MRI. I have not flown since I flew back from my surgery. So I am more worried about being involved in an accident and unconscious.

Not sure it would help but might not hurt. If you are in an accident I do not think a doc is going to to worry about what they are potentially harming if it affects what they are doing.

You definitely should put what side reservoir is on.

Point. My hernia was on same side as reservoir. In fact sitting just under hernia. Doc was made well aware of it. After hernia surgery. Coincidence. Titan no longer worked. Hernia was fixed. Reservoir was mysteriously empty. On way to a revision.

Point of story. If docs are doing something to you. They have due diligence to fix what they are working on. Should do what they can to mitigate other issues but an implant is not life threatening issue. A hernia can be. If something is damage fixing a potential real health issue. Guess what. You got little recourse.

Of course if you are operating and they rupture a reservoir accidentally to save your life or cut a tube. I am not sure I can argue to much about it. Still makes it a tough go though. Look at bright side. You get longer cylinders on the revision.

My concern is that the device is MRI conditional. Something about it heats up really hot if the proper settings are not used or there is to much time. Just don't want to be burned badly if I'm injured and unable to tell them.

I have had them due to the hernia and wanting to make sure docs knew where all parts are.

Other than telling the docs and technician. I did not have any issues. Tech was not concerned at all.

Well till after surgery. When hernia was great and titan was dead.

my titan does not set off the metal detector; and when scanned on that scanner where you put arms up, 90 percent of the time there is no issue (10% of the time, they do a very brief pat down of my pocket since I hang to the right quite a bit).

I really do not see any reason for a medical device bracelet.

Agree with other comments that if you are in really serious shape, doctors will likely do what they need to o save your life, and then, if necessary, fix up the implant should it be damaged at a later date.

Well what is made of medal on an implant device? I thought everything was plastic and the cylinders looked to me like rubber. I ask because if their is any metal it might be dangerous when you have a colonoscopy or any dental work. I know that when I went to get a colonoscopy they asked me if I had any implants and I told the nurse that I had a penile implant and she said that she guessed it was OK to have it. But I know for a fact that if you have like a prosthetic knee you can get an infection that will require your implant to come out, let the infection heal off before they put another one in. Any ways I had the colonoscopy and I did not get any infection on my penile implant. Maybe the Titan has some metal on it. About the only thing that might have metal is the pump, not sure.

What part of the device is actually setting off the alarm? Also, can the TSA see ALL of the metal or just a certain area?
