My road to implant

Postby SteveSW » Wed Jan 27, 2021 7:34 pm

I’m not sure anyone will want to read about my winding road to an implant, which is scheduled for 2/18/21. It all started 18 years ago when I was hit suddenly with a seriously bad case of Peyronie’s. Over the course of a few days, a curve started developing, with a dorsal plaque mass which ultimately extended from near the base, 2/3 of way down my dick, and still does today. ED was just beginning to show it ugly self. I underwent the torturous Verapimil injections, which are very painful shots into the plaque. This process took several weeks and did help reduce the curvature to about 50 degrees. Doctor said well, that’s all that can be done, you will just have to live with the results of the disease.

I started Viagra, and it worked well for a few years, and then began to fail, even at 200 mgs. Vacuum pumps didn’t deliver a hard on sufficient for sex. Found a new urologist who injected me in his office, giving me a chubby, then performed an ultrasound, and diagnosed a “severe” venous leak and the largest plaque mass he had ever seen. Prescribed Trimix and I spent a few years gradually needing ever stronger strengths, and larger doses until 75 units of the strongest mix available also recently stopped working. The ED and Peyronie’s caused a significant amount of loss in both length and girth. I long knew an implant was on the horizon, but I had to wait until Medicare. There was no way to cover the expense of the surgery otherwise. Also, I wasn’t going to let a Dr in Albuquerque anywhere near my penis with a scalpel.

Now living in St. Louis, I found two local surgeons, both of whom I liked. I talked to the AMS rep, and a patient liaison who were incredibly helpful. I decided and scheduled my first appointment with him in December. He gave me hope. The surgery scheduler didn’t want to schedule until after Medicare coverage changes on Jan 1 and feared the doctors only open January surgery slot was too soon for the approvals, and he only had 2 slots in February. I grabbed the 18th. February 1 is pre-surgery screening at the surgery center, and my pre-op appointment with the Dr is the next day. This has all become very, very real and is both exciting and terrifying. Continue my chronical, or not guys?

Keep your appointments,, and get excited about it,,, look forward too it,,, and think positive about it,,, it will all fall in place with the right medical staff helping you,, finding this site already puts you ahead of the game.
My first implant last year only lasted 6 months before revision surgery was done last week,,, but those 6 months,,, ohhh if the wifey could only tell you,,, thats why I opted to go thru the surgery again...
After 4 Titan IPP failures within 4 years I finally wised up and went to the Malleable Genesis 23cm- 13mm implanted 2-1-24 and no regrets so far.
For those that are asking, I'm going to change the wifeys avatar weekly.

Well, yesterday and today have been a mix of good and bad. Monday, I went to hospital for pre-surgery screening. Blood work, ekg, pee in a bottle and lengthy verbal interrogations about my health history. About 4 years ago I had a heart attack and had a stent put in, and they were dramatically concerned about it. They had trouble with the ekg and ran the test twice, and there seemed to be two opinions about the result. One blaming a technical issue, the other blaming my heart.

Today I had my pre-surgery visit with the surgeon, where he did a aggressive stretch test and spent a great deal of time examining the head of my penis because of the Prince Albert, but decided there shouldn’t be a problem. As he was yanking on my dick, he said I should come out of surgery the same size. He said ekg was fine and we are good to go on the 18th. Then right after I got home, the hospital called and want a heart echo gram, but said the ekg was fine. So what’s the deal guys. They got the surgeon and my primary involved. The test is set up for Friday the 5th. So now I get to freak out all over again imagining the worst. It’s very easy for them to turn down an elective surgery if they perceive any risk. So now I wait. If a person can go through all the stress doctors put you through, your heart is just fine LOL. Damnit, I just want my dick to work!

Yes, Post early. New guy on this site everyday.

Yes, Post often. You never know what sounds minor or unique to you in the moment, may just be the answer for a Searching Brother.

Yes, Post the "Final Outcome", with lots of "How goes it" postings 1,2,3,5,10 years out.

Every Medical expert can read a CT, PET scan, EKG, etc. and see something different. I've learned to NEVER listen to any doctor except my Attending doc. And even then, always wait for the second or third scan to worry.

Slow down, Deal with what you can, hope/pray/embrace the best solution you can find in that moment.

We're with you.
