I am absolutely terrified of getting a catheter. I have had one a couple times in hospital but it was fucking awful. Anything you can share with me to lessen the fear and or pain with putting in a cath I would be greatful. Thank you in advance.

Glad my advice on the catheter removal helped you out! Welcome to the brotherhood.

I'd be happy to give you my experiences. If you'd rather go to PM that's fine but I can also share here for the benefit of others who might need the info.

Are you looking to possibly needing indwelling catheterization or maybe intermittent self-catheterization sometime in the future? As I said previously, my experience is almost all recreational ("Fetish") and probably no more than 10 times so far but I'm willing to share what I've learned.

Biggest thing is, there are two methods, either of which can be used at home as long as you keep things as clean as possible. STERILE INSERTION (used in hospitals) and CLEAN INSERTION (typically used at home. I've done modified STERILE most of my insertions because of paranoia after getting a raging UTI once due to an unfortunate back-flow situation due to an unsterilized collection bag and defective anti-reflux valve. The valve failed, the "non-sterile" bag was higher than the catheter and some contents drained into my bladder (OUCH!)

ALWAYS ALWAYS start with all new sterile supplies, collection bag, catheter, etc.

I usually attach the syringe full of sterile normal saline to the catheter port before ever inserting. LUBE the urethra (sterile lube syringes are recommended but I didn't have so did the best I could). Lube the catheter if needed. DO NOT TOUCH the catheter, handle it with the packaging as it is fed into the meatus and through the urethra.

It may be better in some men to get a special catheter (Coude) with a bent tip so it can make it easily through the bend through the prostate. I use straight Foley catheters with little discomfort.

I have better results with latex catheters rather than silicone (maybe due to brand and how the eyelets are finished). My latex catheters go in smoothly with little scraping but the silicone that I have (different brand) feel very painful to insert. Look for caths with polished eyelets if possible.

Always use the saline volume recommended by the catheter manufacturer despite the rated volume on the box. My 5ml balloon catheters hold 10ml of saline and that is what the manufacturer says in the instructions.

More available including detailed sterile procedure if needed. Just ask either publicly or by PM.

PS: One more bit of paranoia on my part - since I'm terrified about the inflation lumen (tube) of a catheter getting blocked preventing balloon deflation, I usually test-inflate the balloon before insertion by putting most of the syringe into the balloon and then letting it deflate back into the syringe. This can leave the balloon a little elliptical though with a slight bulge. That is fine and shouldn't make it difficult to insert but at this point since the balloon can be seen, it's ok to aspirate if you want by pulling back the syringe until all the saline is out - if there are wrinkles, just push a small amount back in from the syringe until the wrinkles are gone before inserting.

So this is day 2, and I am surprised at how good I feel. The pain is down to an Ibuprofen only level I hope. I’m sitting at my desk, admittedly kind of reclined though ;) The abdominal incision hurts the worst. My dick and balls aren’t yet, as black and blue as the Dr. said they would be, since in his words, “We beat you up pretty bad getting around the plaque and the penile modeling we did.”

I am now the proud owner of an AMS CX 18cm x 12cm + 3 RTE. I don’t know what the 12cm represents, maybe the circumference of the tubes? Right now at 70% inflated, little Steve measures 5.5” in length and 5” in girth, which does not make me unhappy. In the old days, I could raise a 6.5-7” erection and almost 6” girth, but about 18 years of Peyronie’s and ED took a lot of both length and girth. If I follow a inflation protocol, when I can, may be I can get to 6” which would be great!

Peeing has been easy and pain free. Haven’t crapped yet, so I’ll see how that goes, soon, I hope. I feel like I’m about to get a new lease on life and can’t wait to start using my new equipment! It’s going to be a long 6-8 weeks.

I’m going to try and post some pics. Thanks for everything guys, you helped change my life.

I recommend you get a 9 oz anal douche bulb or other type of enema bag. I used a 9 oz bulb for the first few days, only using 4-5 oz of warm water to add a little gentle pressure and lubrication. That made it very easy to have almost effortless bowel movements for the first few days.

Thanks Wayne, Tomorrow (day 3 ) is kind of my deadline. I'll give your system a try.
