I started my journey with implant, considering heavy-weight surgeons, like Eid, Kramer, Hakki, and Perito, in East Coast region. However, I ended up having my implant with a surgeon at Kaiser Permanente that no one had heard about him before.
As I am still 3 days post-op, I can not say that my dr. is an excellent one until I totally recover and start using my tool!
I am raising this question because I know that most of the members advise to do it only with a reputable surgeon, which is correct. Myself, I was trying to have it with Dr. Kramer, but couldn't due insurance and then to the closure of his practice. Many members are happy with the results they got by surgeons unknown to us.
So, if 2 implant surgeons having the same skill, and each one takes a different approach: having a private practice gives the surgeon an advantage of being able to market himself, but the hospital-employed one is not able to do so.

Re: Are Private Practice Surgeons better than Hospital-Employed ones?
My surgeon (in fact who is also my urologist) is not a "hospital-employed" surgeon but rather hospital-affiliated. He has his private practice in Plano and sees both men and women for urological issues, but also does complex penile reconstruction and surgeries (98% above his peers based on Healthgrades in both complex penile surgeries and penile implants).
He is a little-known doctor outside of the area around the Dallas TX area and very likely many men in the Dallas area have never heard of him. He does his implant procedures at Baylor Scott & White in Frisco TX and he did my UroLift implant procedure at Baylor Scott & White surgical center in Plano TX. I signed a document for both surgeries stating that I understood and accepted the fact that he was a part owner of the facility, although that doesn't specifically say he's employed by them, but rather that he owns stock in the company.
