A few questions for older members about the implant process

Postby Baseballfan11 » Tue Jan 19, 2021 5:49 pm

Q1: What was your conversation with the urologist like when you finally agreed on the implant? I actually addressed the implant with Lipschultz in Houston when I saw him a couple of years ago and he laughed at the idea like I was from Mars. I am wondering how I’d approach this and indicate to the urologist that I’m serious about the idea, having evidence to support at the very least progressing in treatment options beyond a small sample pack of Cialis.

Q2: How have you dealt with costs of the implant (beyond the initial procedure)? Surely there is always the possibility of failure and then a revision. Also, getting a penile implant doesn’t mean life just pauses. You most definitely have normal daily expenses as well as other medical expenses.

Q3: How do you address the issue with sex partners? Do you get ahead of it and explain outright on a date?

Q4: How long did you wait to get the implant from your initial consultation with the doc up until the time of surgery?

Thanks for the responses, guys. GT glad you inspired this thread

What was your Masturbation technique may I ask? I too think that I got ED from Prone masturbation.

Initially I got hard to porn, or what I knew as hard. I would squeeze my dick between my thighs using that pressure to eventually climax. That’s how it felt good. With my hand I felt zero. Over time I could just do the thigh thing soft or semi, and then eventually I just stopped getting hard

I would think you need to see a sexual medicine specialist that can find why you have ED. ex: Dr Goldstein at San Diego sexual medicine in CA. How to pay for it?? Get a good job that has medical insurance.

I would strongly suggest that you try ALL other options before you get an implant. They are great but they are the last resort. At your age you would need multiple revisions.
Mine was the result of prostate cancer and once it was removed NO erections from pills, shots worked part way but could not penetrate, vacuum pumps with tightest ring after shots would work for a few minutes and had to pump again so I had to get an implant. No cost to me. Medicare and co-insurance. :D

I am of the opinion that you should wait before you jump on implant wagon.
Implant is deed end street. No back. Once implant always implant.
I do not think that someone your age has valid organic cause of ED unless suffered bad pelvic fractures like open book fracture, or had some big cardio vascular surgeries (heart and aorta).
As 56 y/o at present who had prostate cancer at 51 and was treated with RP (prostate removal) who exhausted all non invasive options ( pills, injections, VED pumps, ring etc) . Decision to get implant was only option to stay sexually active.
And you can compare implant to blood erected penis even if it is not 100%.
With implant, sensations will slowly fade so you might not be able to experience orgasm like you used to have.
My 2c.

Q1: I decided on a surgeon last spring. I was a few months past my 64th birthday. I was very well versed on the implant process so I was able to have a good 2 way discussion. The Dr asked questions about my symptoms that I answered honestly. Btw, his female assistant was in the room typing all of this into a laptop. Not being shy to talk to a mixed gender small group is important. I feel that my honest answers satisfied him that my problem was real. My age helped also in my opinion. I never talked about an increase in size either.
To a younger man. I would suggest work on the shyness part. Get well versed in the names & a decent pronunciation of the words. That shows that you're serious. Be prepared to ask for testing. Tell about your success or failures of oral meds. Not pills you bought on the internet from Asia.
Q2: I have insurance that might cover the implant. Due to my age & covid I declined to get my hopes crushed by a denial so I have chosen to wait for Medicare to kick in. I'm retired. We have lived 2 years without withdrawing $$ from my IRA. Over a year ago, I asked my wife if it was worth paying $25k cash for 1 year earlier on the implant. She decided no. Also, we had a cruise & some travel planned that would of been awkward to work around. We still have a decent amount of intimate contact so that choice was not a deal breaker for us.
Q3: My wife brought up the subject of an implant before I did. I mentioned it to a urologist in 2013. He didn't do implants & I let it drop. Big regret on my part. I will agree that having a long term relationship changes the dynamics. But young men need to understand that they'll have to play the cards dealt to them. Women have thier own baggage to drag around. They constantly worry about their breasts & vagina. Too big, too small, wrong shape, one side bigger or higher that the other. Be confident about your implant. Most women like confidence in men. Above all, never ever judge a woman by her physical features. They'll remember that shit forever. Presented with a first time or two. I'd probably discretely pump up & bang. If she is looking like a more than a ONS then a candid discussion is in order. No sense in going over ever tiny detail. Throw out that in the past that you've had some erection problems but your got it resolved. If she asks questions then answer the question & do not over whelm her with info.
Q4: Still waiting, basically since 2013. Looking back. Each delay made sense when it happened. But as a total I now realize that those delays added up to a big mistake. I remember a friend at work. He likely qualifies as a younger man. Mid 40's at the time. He was facing an issue that he was worried might end his sex life. He felt that he had a good run at sex & if this went bad he wouldn't feel bad about it. I remember thinking that if in that position I'd be upset. So yes, old guys can like sex more than some young men.

Oh, mk1969's advice is valid. I would suggest that most if not all men go thru the pills & shots first. At least be willing to give them a try. I skipped the shots on the advice of my primary care doctor & my proposed implant doctor. But I was willing to try them.

Thanks for your help GT. I’d be willing to try other methods for sure. I don’t have a lot of hope but if that’s the order things have to go, I’d take it

Answer 1 Everything quit working for me the pills and injections. I found Frank Talk and I spent a lot of time here reading and learning. I told the doctor that I was ready for a implant.

Answer 2 I had to pay my copayments the first time and on my revision I don’t remember paying anything.

Answer 3 I haven’t told anyone about my implant. I go to the bathroom before sex and pump up. My implant has been well tested. The women are dickmatized when I am done. I had one that tried to fuck herself to death because she saw it still sticking up in the air and decided to take it for a ride LOL! She tapped out.

Answer 4 I had to wait almost 3 months for the first implant and 2 for the revision. Worst time in my life.
