Even on most of the videos I've seen online, the surgeons do close examination of the dilated corpora via the corporotomies in an attempt to ensure they have no crossovers both distally and proximally. The fact that they always (in the videos) checked for proximal crossover using a "goal-post" method and distally by some other method I don't recall, tells me that crossover is a real danger despite the tough fibrous nature of the tunica albuginea.
