What's Being Drained

Postby alfa88 » Sat Sep 05, 2020 8:16 pm

I asked my Uro's assistant where the blood in the drain comes from but he gave me a very vague answer. I'm thinking it may have come from corpus cavernosum which is now either decimated or sharing it's location.

Basically, the surgeon is performing dissection of multiple tissues, dilating the corpora, and basically just "tearing shit up"...Everything they do that separates any tissue from any other tissue is going to create small wounds to capillaries and other small blood vessels. The fluid itself is known as serosanguinous fluid, and it's a mix of red blood cells and plasma...should be some shade of deep red.

As for where it came from, I'd say the majority would be from the scrotum and penis (drain probably was placed to cover both areas). The reservoir is actually placed in a fairly open space next to the bladder called the space of Retzius, so rarely produces a lot of fluid. You'll find some pictures around the site of people with large amounts of swelling and accumulated fluid, and you'll see this generally happens within the penis or scrotum.

Long story short, surgery busts a lot of little blood vessels and those leak for a while.
