2 pump failures in 6 months

Postby Stewy78 » Mon Aug 03, 2020 11:45 am

I had my first implant installed in January.
Unfortunately after about a month of usage cylinders started to deflate only during sex, especially in some positions where there was more pressure on the penis. After deflation it was not possible to inflate implant anymore until I slightly press the release button that made a little "click" like it was stuck.
Inflation without sex worked as expected in fact I was able to cycle the implant successfully. After a while pump valve failed completely and it my surgeon decided to replace the pump telling me that the issue was broken pump valve.
45 day ago I had my second surgery to replace the pump and I developed a big scrotal hematoma because a blood vessel was damaged during surgery.
Both surgeries were performed infrapubically.
Now hematoma is healing and it's slowly resolving and I'm able to use the pump but I still notice the exact same issue as before during sex. I also noticed same issue when I try to bend my penis down and bend cylinders a little bit down.
I'm lost and I can't understand what is the issue. Do you have any ideas?

I don't know what to tell you. Is there any way you can get a second opinion from another implant doctor? even if it is in another country?

I definitely feel your pain!
You have to put out some feelers to some other Drs. here in the US, or elsewhere.
STATE upfront that you are looking for opinions as to why, and not holding them to anything because their radars will go up about having a suit on their hands. Also, reach out to the manufacture about the issue. It might be something that can be remedied locally (try this option 1st).
Good luck!!!

I'm curious. Is there anyway to tell if the two pumps have the same "lot" number or if the serial numbers are near each other.
At first I was thinking that the tubing was at fault. But that gets pretty selective in the defect. If the outside of the tubing was "wrong" then I'd expect the fluid to leak out. If the inside of the tubing was at fault? I don't see the fluid leaking past the valve. So it looks like the pumps are defective.
I wish that you told us in your post what brand & models of implant you got. That might generate more comments from similar implant owners.

My implant is an AMS CX 21+4 cm rte. I was able to check both pumps lot numbers and are different. I tried to contact AMS but they told me they can't help with the issue and to contact my surgeon for a resolution. My surgeon told me that has no idea of what is wrong.
I booked a video appointment with Dr. Eid and I hope to be able to do a complete revision surgery with him but I don't know when it will be possible since I still have some hematoma in my testicles and also I don't know if it will be possible to travel to NYC because covid. I live in Italy.

Steve,
If this would happen to any reputable car company, it would be fixed free of charge.
In healthcare, total opposite. Any implants ( mostly familiar with orthopedic implants, rods, plates, screws, arteficial joints etc) I don’t think I ever heard about any recalls. Patients are responsible for charges any time they use healthcare.
Some insurances are covering it better and some are so sh***ty, barely covering anything.
I am really sorry that this happened to you especially knowing you are young and sexually very active.
In less then 2 weeks I will have revision because my first implant was not placed properly first time. To me, it never looked right on my right side ( right cylinder) but every time I brought it to my implant surgeon, he convinced me that everything is all right with my implant.
My revision will be done by different surgeon.
