Surgery with Dr.Eid coming up in Sept..logistics

Postby Captain1117 » Thu Jul 30, 2020 4:50 pm

Hello everyone

My medicals are looking clean..still waiting for Dr.Eid's office to officially state that.

Luckily I connected with a forum member, from same city I live i.e Toronto ,also planning an implant with Dr.Eid, and we were talking about scheduling our surgeries on the same day.We talk regularly and relate well.

1. Its not confirmed but an idea of doing surgery on same day is what we are exploring. We are both single straight guys.

The pros we have thought about:
More during post surgery flight back to Canada.. to have a company who understands.
Post surgery anxities, feeling low, "what did I do" moments...someone to talk to.

Would like to hear what implanted guys think about the idea.

2. The second logistical aspect is most hotels that were provided by Dr.Eids office, starts with Bentley, Affinia Gardens etc...these hotels aren't even accepting online booking for Sept at this point.
What are our options.
a. Find and airbnb if available somewhere relatively close
b. find a decent hotel 30-40 min cab drive away which are accepting bookings now.

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Pre Order wheelchairs from the airline. Wheel chair patients get wheeled right to the front of every line and through TSA. First to board and depart. Well chair ride right to the door of your taxi or rental car. Don't be shy and tell the stewards that you had a very sensative operation down there. Many operations in that area are similar. You don't have to explain. 30-40 minute ride in a NY cab sounds like a real bad idea

I can add a few details from my experience with Dr Eid.

I would recommend the Bentley Hotel if available, 10 minute walk to Dr's office and convenient location for meals and food shopping.

Both of you will need a "medical escort" to meet you post-surgery and accompany you in a taxi back to your hotel. Dr Eid's office has contact info for an escort that I used. I think I paid $100 for that, but could be more the further away your hotel is.

Dr Eid will send you a prescription for pain meds to be filled before you leave for NYC. If you can't get a US prescription filled in Canada, you can fill it NYC but allow extra time to get that done. I had that exact problem across state lines.

On day 3 post surgery you will meet with Dr Eid for a discharge exam, and he will remove the catheter and activate the implant if you are ready. I elected to leave the catheter in for my 6 hr trip home (NY to CA), and that was a really good decision as I didn't need to use the airport or airplane bathrooms. I walked through TSA with the cath bag on with no issues.

If you can still reserve it consider Business class return flight with a lay-flat seat. @Tangerine recommended this to me and I was able to sleep for the entire flight.

That's all I can think of right now. Dr Eid is a great choice for your procedure. I didn't need any followup visits or phone calls, and I was able to activate at home on day 4.
