I am in the final stages of deciding which implant product to go with. My Dr only uses AMS. One reason he cited was less dog ears and mentioned the girth claim by Titan is not relevant for most. I came upon this video from Dr Perito who is firm in is suggestion of Titan. He goes as far as saying if these products were pacemakers that the AMS would be removed from the market. I am not trying to stir anything up here rather hear the board members thoughts on this issue. I am a bit confused with the decision I need to make.

Same here. I am trying to make decision which one I want.
I totally eliminated Titan because I am not happy how it looks and feel when deflated, especially angle which never went lower then 45 degrees.
Always points out and it is very hard to hide it when wearing scrubs. Always looks semi erect.

I am stuck between LGX and CX.
Have to do more research before I make decision. I would like to have LGX but as per my doctor and guys here on FT, LGX has lots of failures especially cylinders become easily aneurismic and have to be replaced.

Comparing IPP's to pacemakers isn't very revelent in my mind. Based upon the number of failures. If IPP's were regulated like pacemakers. They'd all be off the market. If & when they came back to market. I bet that nobody could afford them.
I talked to a friend this last Sunday. His brother went in for some kind of shoulder surgery. Had the Corona test as required. In surgery, all opened up & a nurse noticed that his Corona test came back positive. No choice but to finish the surgery. After it was all done they noticed that something called a "sugar clamp" was out of date. He had already woken up in recovery. They wheeled him back into surgery, opened his shoulder up & replaced the clamp. Now he is recovering at home in quarantine. Stuck in his bedroom & attached bathroom. Not a very happy guy.
Goes to show that medical mistakes are not all that rare of a thing.

You have to keep in mind that these Drs work with these products day in, day out, so even if they do not have an implant themselves, like any technician, the refine their attitude, process, etc.
They hear from their patients about what works, what doesn't, so they will come to their own conclusions.
I went from a AMS, to Coloplast semi-rigid, and am now at Coloplast 3-piece. I still have dog ears, only in a different part (AMS and Coloplast 3 piece). Some guys get lucky, I didn't, so go with what you feel.

We had a lively discussion on that recently. Following up on that threads logic. Maybe AMS is the best of some awkward choices? To further muddy the conversation. I strongly suspect that some of the more well known surgeons receive a financial incentive to use/promote a particular brand. Think about it. I've read that doctors can get additional money from drug companies for writing more prescriptions for a certain drug. Why wouldn't the same incentives be followed in non life critical IPP's?

I have an AMX LGX and love it. I didn't have the option for a Titan as the only Dr. in network only used AMS but I couldn't ask for better results. But I can't speak on comparison between the two. Now I did have some trouble at activation with the pump but it wasn't an AMS failure. I heal really fast and always have. I told my Dr. this and he sort of blew it off UNTIL neither of us could get the pump valve to switch with any repeatability. Long story short, I healed too well and the pocket he made for the pump ended up too small so he had to go back in and fix it. Works like a charm now.

Also bear in mind that the above linked video is from 2012 so his opinion might have changed a little, or not. Just saying it is 8 years old.

That is an OLD video. I'm sure he would not make that statement now. I have to echo the concern about choosing a device. It is up to the doctor and we all want the best results. The two brands are far more similar than different...and there are more coming into the market.
It's like the old fight about Ford vs Chevy....irrelevant. They both work. And No one wants a monopoly - without competition, progress will stall.

As Paul points out. 8 years is a long time. Even if the model number doesn't change. I'm sure that small running improvements are done. I think that I remember Kramer's opinion changed on brands over the last few years.
As such, I'd be slow to take what they say as gospel. I think that their surgery technical skills are more constant than the opinion of the brands is.

It would be interesting to have him do a follow up to this video and see what he has to say about today's implants and how they have changed.
Having a huge market share is just that, a huge market share, but that can always be encroached upon. Hey, look at Apple and M$ and Android.
