Mesa Mersa
So, cultures came back positive for Mercer… Not on the implant so far but definitely in my body… Apparently, it can attach to the implant so they very well may be removing that in the near future? Has anyone had this happen? Did they throw in a temporary to keep things OK or do you think I’m just gonna have to deal with it again and again and again?

Re: Mesa Mersa
My unlearned opinion is that they will probably want to eliminate the resistant bacterial infection FIRST before doing anything with your implant. Once they're satisfied that you no longer have the systemic infection, then they'll do the revision or salvage if needed.
I might be wrong but I don't think they want to risk opening you up if you have an antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection on your skin or in your system, and they'll want to wait until it's gone before doing so.

Is this related to infection with an implant? Is there ever a possibility to give meds to treat the infection rather than swapping the whole implant out?

Re: Mesa Mersa
White Cane stated that he doesn't believe it has infected his implant but he wasn't sure. He only stated that he tested positive for MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus).
If it's a severe infection or MRSA is in the bloodstream, what I read indicates that intravenous antibiotics are the treatment of preference in these cases.

Sorry gentlemen! I was a little bit stoned from surgery still while writing this… I had a bone infection that caused the MR essay… That determined the implant is OK… Also, I really was not thinking but whoever posted above about not really wanting to do any invasive surgeries while this was going on was absolutely correct… I appreciate your input and constant support!

Implant is fine and will not be removed for at least six weeks when I’m cleared to get a revision…

Did you recently have a revision that caused the infection?

Re: Mesa Mersa
Well, my two cents on this is that I have no idea what a MERSA infection is, but I did have an infection that resulted in them taking out the AMS3-piece, putting in a Coloplast 1 piece to hold everything in place until the 3-piece was put back in. Infection was ONLY in my balls, the pump, but the whole thing was taken out and a 1 piece was put in. They cleaned out my balls of the infection and put in the 1 piece. Since that did not involve putting anything in my balls, it was OK. I was told it was needed to keep the space open (help me out here, Waynetho)
Fuckers charged me for the 3rd implant, which I have now.

MRSA stands for Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus which is a superbug. The few times I've been around when someone was tested for MRSA, they usually swabbed the person's nasal area. If it's found in the bloodstream, intravenous antibiotics are needed.
I just found on Wikipedia that Methicillin is rarely used anymore and usually replaced by Vancomycin instead. Apparently MRSA is treated by Vancomycin since it's resistant to Methicillin.

Re: Mesa Mersa
Ouch! Nope, definitely did not have that. I was OK for the 4 months it was in, but could not pump. Everything was functional, but pump was stuck to ball sac.
All 3 Drs highly suspected because of tenderness whenever they handled me, but said was not sure until they went in (3rd Dr. said definitely was infected when I saw him, but had to go in and verify...duh).
