Getting your insurance carrier on board, especially for a second opinion, seems prudent.

Biblically, one is supposed to bring a grievance to the party in question before you bring in outsiders. Then, if no satisfaction, eventually, to your Rabbi for adjudication. It would be fair to notify your surgeon that you think he did wrong, but, of course, we here are incensed at the degree of wrongness and feel that you might not get heard fairly by the surgeon who did the work. If you can talk to the surgeon's supervisor or the head of urological surgery (depending on who did the surgery and his place in the ranking), that might be best. On the other hand, if you get resistance from the organization, having a second opinion on hand and a lawyer's backup puts you in a position of strength (which you may or may not need).

Use your best judgement to balance these questions.

I would go to Levine for the second opinion. Maybe the person at Coloplast could help you with getting the appointment. Who ever ( particular doctor) worked on you, I wouldn't let them touch me again. They clearly do not know what they are doing. But some doctors do get hooked on drugs. I would be talking to whoever is at the top of the organization at uropartners. They have a reputation to protect. I would just have them access FrankTalk.org and read this blog. You have not mentioned anything that could be liable.

The denial reaction is very much expected considering that NOBODY should be doing this sort of operation without knowing what they're doing and this type of chop job is UNHEARD OF. That's why my initial reaction was that it's impossible or near impossible for that to happen. Nobody is that inept (or one would hope not in such a critical, sensitive and meaningful area to a man).

As I have been reading this thread, I have been wondering where the Coloplast rep was during the operation.
My understanding is that whether it is Coloplast or AMS, they always have a rep in the operating room with the operating team. ????? Am I wrong?

The surgery center says they won't release notes from surgery unless requested by the DR who did the surgery. What now? I am pretty tired of the continual pain.

I am awaiting a call back from my GP to see if they can do an ultrasound.

I can call Coloplast again but uropartners is not going to help much I am afraid unless I try to go to the top and explain things.

Does Levine do Infrapubic as well?

Still 4 tubes... not insane. :) WTF?

Look up Dr Lawrence Levine on your computer. He is a professor at Rush university hospital. Call his office for an appointment to see him. See if you can text him the pictures of your problem. I don't know if he does infrapubic. I found everything I know about him on the Coloplast site under find a surgeons and Chicago. His# is 312-598-3116. If he confirms that it is backwards, google " attorney referral in Chicago" company. They will get you with the most qualified attorney in the area. It will cost you nothing ,as they get a cut of the case. The attorney will take the case on for his percentage.

If they won't even release the name of the Doctor who did the surgery, go to the chief administrator of the hospital. If that person stonewalls you, definitely get a lawyer.

Do not lose your temper. Speak slowly and in short sentences. Do not lose focus with any objections or side-tracking or referrals to other people. Put the responsibility on the hospital. Get (or give) reasonable deadlines.

As in my post earlier, take notes, take names, call people by name and thank them for their time, if not for their help. Get them aligned as your allies. That last piece of advice will help you identify your enemies.

I called his office. It took a bit of explaining but the receptionist finally looked up my info and took a message for Dr Levine. She took it seriously enough to see if he could personally call me back. She said for something like this, they could get me right in. She also conformed that he was in my network. Someone at Uropartners told me originally that he was not in my network or he would have done the surgery initially.

Thank you. I will be calm and have been. I have been persistent enough to get people to believe me but very polite!

The surgical center so far has been the only one stonewalling me. I was still polite!

It appears they are trying to protect their posterior. If the top executives are made to realize that such attempts at protection leaves them more exposed to a greater liability, (if not medical malpractice in a legal sense, really, really bad publicity).

If the administrator can be made to see you as an ally in protecting the facility (if they help you) that might relieve the stonewalling. Only you are in a position to assess the "thinking" that is going on in their muddled minds. (Pardon my disdain for the institution that refuses to be helpful to one of their patients.)
