Thanks to all giving the step by step guidance. The kinds of things I don't think about until it's too late.

congratulations on your upcoming surgery date. im writing this from the affinia and am about 5 hours post op with dr eid. i had the same hotel dilemma but the kitchen and the walk from surgery persuaded me. i dont like to eat out. im sure the bentley is good also, his office recommends them both. i believe i saw a post here that the bentley will bring you a small refrigerator/freezer upon request; you might want to ask because it nice having ice at your disposal. i did this alone without telling anyone also and really no problems, just a little anxiety about it. if your wife is legally blind she might not be acceptable to the hospital as a chaperone, so you would need to hire a service anyway. discreet chaperone was really good; arrived on time and very talkative. good luck.
22 +1 titan. January, 2020 with Dr Eid. Failed January, 2023. Seems to be a break in the tubing.

Good Morning Guys,

Thanks for all the input, much appreciated.

The day after my proctectomy (RALP). I got my walking papers, I left the floor all alone (unnoticed - no wheelchair) & went to the lobby to wait for my daughter. I couldn't stay there one more night, no sleep all night long.

Got to go check packing list items needed!

Thanks

In every room (I believe its every room - I only stayed in one ;^) ) there is a dorm-size fridge with the freezer section permanently sealed so you can't use it. My guess is that the freezer caused exploding soda pop/beer cans, and one hell of a mess which prompted the decision to seal them.

I also went on my surgical journey by myself. My wife and her natural anxiety would have been more trouble than comfort. Like you, I hired Discreet Chaperones, and am very pleased with the service that was provided.

When you hire them (I did it via e-mail on a recommendation from Dr. Eid's office), a day or two before surgery, you will be provided with the escort's name and phone number. This information is MANDATORY when you arrive at the hospital - you will be turned away if you don't have a chaperone's name & number. When I had dressed myself in phase 2 recovery (after your legs start working again), I was met by the chaperone and we left to catch a cab back to the hotel. Mission accomplished.
