Take the hospital plastic portable urinal home with you.

There are a LOT more practical tips in old threads in the "implants" subforum. Use the "search" function, or just occupy your time by cruising through and looking for likely-looking thread titles.

You will find LOTS of information, encouraging and cautionary on this subject and on others. Time well spent.

When I played Army for a living, after every field exercise or operation there would be an after action review where everyone would dissect things and come up with things that went awry and how to fix them.

On Day 13 let me throw a few AAR comments for your use:

Ice. It’s not possible to ice down too much.

Rest. I’ve always been one of those guys that thinks he can conquer any pain or misery by being tougher than the pain. Wrong answer but thanks for playing the game. Rest like they encourage you to do and the swelling, soreness, and bruising will go away faster.

The plastic urinal is a great idea. I took mine with me and stilll use it during the night.

Push the water and stool softeners aren’t a bad idea. I didn’t take many pain pills, bur I did take a few. The water made urinating after the catheter much easier. The stool softener didn’t hurt either. Depending on your bowel habits having a fleet enema or two in the House isn’t a bad idea.

I can’t tell anyone not to succumb to the urge to return to normal life as soon as possible, since that’s what I always do. You’ll be better off if you resist the temptation to act like you’re 25,
A positive attitude and the desire to heal fast is good, but don’t forget to include some common sense and good judgment.

thw things I worried out beforehand (loss of size, no more natural erections) cease to be a concern. Now the worry becomes have I tried to do too much, too soon. Listen to your body but also listen to your doctor. This is probably your first implant surgery. But it isn’t his.

I had my implant on Thursday January 9,2020. Came home on Friday afternoon after spending night. I can tell you my headache from anesthesia was the worst part of the entire thing for me. I was sent home with a drain because I take blood thinners and had a little more oozing than my surgeon would like. I went back on the following Monday and had it removed. I maybe speaking to soon but the thoughts of this procedure is much worse than the surgery. I am just weak but this is to be expected from surgery and you should listen to you doctor and take it easy until you have healed. This is only day four for me and I have minor swelling and bruising which is all expected when you have surgery. On day four after surgery I am amazed at how I am doing. Just don’t be stupid and act like superman. Take care of yourself and you will do fine. God Bless!

Now an important question - After the post surgery appointment on Thursday and if all goes well, I’ll be released to go home. My wife will be driving and we have a 3 hour trip. Any advice on how to handle all that time riding? Not looking forward to it.

Guys make sure you have a urinal in car with you. Was lifesaver for me. I had to go every 3o minutes had so much iv fluids. Peeing like a racehorse!

3 hours sitting up in a typical passenger car? How bumpy are the roads?

Borrowing a motor home if you don't have one would be the ideal way to go. Laying down in the back of a station wagon or a van if you have access to one is a second-best option. Pillows - lots of pillows. (Say it like Neo in "The Matrix" - "Guns - lots of guns.")

Go easy on the painkillers for the ride home. The will definitely make the trip easier but the downside is that you will be able to tolerate movement, etc that will cause you more discomfort hours after you get home. Pain keeps you from overdoing activity. Dulling the pain during the ride may allow you to do too much (sitting up, stopping for a meal, etc.)

Loose clothing and supportive, comfortable bandaging. Ask your nurse or surgeon their advice on taking this 3-hour trip.

Good luck I can completely understand. My surgery was 13 th. I can say st this point I have not had any pain. I have been iceing most of this day.

Only problem I have is swelling of penis and sack. It is making it a bit difficult to pee.
