Intermittent catheter use for urine rentention
Hey everyone, I have to use a intermittent catheter to empty my bladder three times a day. I have an emotional problem doing it. It’s not hard it’s just that emotionally at times I can’t handle it. According to my doctor I have to do it the rest of my life. I am 64-year-old male. I was wondering who else out there has to do this and any advice they can give me and your experiences with Catheters for this problem .
Re: Intermittent catheter use for urine rentention
hello, I’m 32… I’ve had a bunch of pelvic surgeries… After my kidney/pancreas transplant’s, my bladder began to retain urine “80%“... I had to use a catheter three times a day at first… for the first five months, I did some bladder training… Talk to your doctor about this and see if it’s a possibility… I now have about 10% bladder retention and only need to use a catheter if my input and output of fluids is way off… This has happened once since I stopped using the catheter twice a day in March 2018 with the exception of my implant surgery back in October “I’m still working on that but getting better“… that was 100% urine retention. About two months later, I’m at 40%… i’m not a physician so I have to absolutely refuse to give any medical advice about how to do this… The bladder is a muscle… There are nerves involved in those nerves can get damaged but this is always worth a try… you’d be so surprised how excepting of you a good partner will be… They’ve got things on their own and someone that truly loves you is not going to care about this… at first, my girlfriend actually learned how to catheterize me because I am blind… I’ve since learned a sterile way to do it but that took a huge chunk of trust and courage… she assured me that again, she loves my heart and my mind… You can private message me if you’d like… I will try to help how I can! Please, be good to yourself and realize that this kind of thing does happen… The sooner you can accept it as the new normal, the better off you’re going to be with it… i’ve always got your back!
