More than 50 pumps and minimal inflation?

Postby marlow13 » Sun Oct 06, 2019 7:36 pm

I was looking for an answer to this question before I posted, but couldn't find a definitive answer. So here goes. I had my pump activated on 10/2/19. And it has been difficult to get the pop with a stiff new pump, but I've been working on it and pumping at least once a day as my surgeon instructed for the first week. So today I Push on the pump after my bath and it does the pop, but the pump goes soft and reinflates and I pump for about 20-40 times and the pump never gets stiff or hard to manipulate. And my penis gets hard but not like before when i first started on 10/3/19. I could have pumped for an hour and my penis would not get any harder or painful. I'm worried something is wrong. Any help would be appreciated.thank you

When the bulb has trouble filling, most times just stays flat, push the deflate button and usually the bulb will fill. You might go ahead and do a full deflate and squeeze your shaft and feel for fluid going back in the reservoir and start over. For a while I would do a deflate before starting to cycle. My instruction dvd warned about pumping while depressing the deflate button so be sure you have not done that by accident. Keep working at it. There is a learning curve with these things and it takes practice to get used to them. If you continue to have trouble contact your doctor for help.

Take care and good luck going forward with this.

I had some weird problems similar to this. Do you know about squeezing the valve bar from end to end? that resets the button also.

Oldbeek, are you talking about a Coloplast pump and valve?

Good advice about operating the valve and bulb.

Before contacting your surgeon, perhaps contacting the patient liaison from AMS would be more helpful. The patient Liaisons are supposed to be helpful and probably have a lot more experience talking recent implantees through techniques of usage. Besides, they are paid for my the manufacturer and will not involve an office visit charge.

As far as the number of pumps is concerned, this thread might shed some light...or maybe confusion. At least it shows that there is debate over how many pumps is "normal" to get inflated.

Lost sheep,, I was talking about an AMS pump which he has and I also have. Been a while since mine was new but twice I had to free things up by pressing on the ends of the valve bar. Also a hot tube really loosens things up. Makes the stiff pump softer.

The valve body on my AMS pump has only one button and it is on the long side (rather than what I would call "ends of the valve bar". I mistook your description.

It makes me wonder: Does your pump have a deflate button on the long side of the valve body (which can get stuck) and squeezing on the ends lets it get free? (I have never had that happen... yet... and it would be nice to know that this technique is available.)

I am always learning.

Thanks

I have the typical AMS pump. The whole bar is flexible. Squeezing on the ends loosens up the fit of the release button. Jamie from AMS described how to do it. It was only a problem when the pump was new and stiff. Works flawless this past year.

That was in my DVD in my AMS packet as well. That DVD was online in the past but I have not been able to find it again.
