Decided against an implant

First, I want to thank all who answered my questions, and all who post their experiences in this forum. I appreciate all your honesty and openess.

I learned enough here to make a personal decision against getting an implant. I will drop over to the VED/pump forum, to see if I want to attempt that one more time. My previous attempts many years ago were an abject failure, but I still may be willing to try once again.

Pills (all of them) also failed miserably.

I trust most doctors now - especially surgeons - about as far as I can toss a grand piano.

Thanks again for all the information and attempts at support in this forum, but more surgeries are not in play for me (had several, with some failures and complications).

Have you tried trimix? I used the pills with mixed results and also tried the pump which I didn't like either.. Finally got on trimix a month ago and its the best thing yet for ED! My first injection made me feel like a teenager again! If you haven't asked your uro about getting the trimix, I certainly recommend it!

Plus 1 on tri-mix.
I even gained a lot of girth until it didn't work.

Thanks for your experience, but no doctor is ever getting anywhere near my crotch with anything sharp ever again. Injections are not for me either. I am diabetic and won't even inject for that. Stabbing my dick will never happen.

I might try a pump again, maybe. First time years ago was a disaster.

Congratulations on making your decision.

Having a decision is a remarkable way of clearing the mind. And the decision process can always be revisited if and when new information becomes available, new perspective or renewed priorities.

I will relate a piece of advice I got when hospitalized for a spinal condition: I had a choice between bed rest and putting up with the sciatica or an operation. One surgeon advised, "You can always operate later, but you can't un-operate." I chose to take the less invasive solution, mainly because my condition usually resolves in a few years with care (resolves in a few weeks or months with operation).

In my case, my E.D. showed absolutely no hope of resolving, ever, so there was virtually no downside to operating. So, I opted in that case for the operation.

I do recommend use of the V.E.D. for therapy whether or not it works for sex. Keeping blood flushing through penile tissues (twice daily - to emulate the health benefits of normally occurring nocturnal erections) is a good idea if you don't get them regularly.

It really is a tough decision. And a very personal one.

It definitely makes it harder when you have other health issues. I have lupus and the thought of the infection possibility weighed on me heavily. If one of my grandkids passes a cold to me, I have it for weeks. Spent the month of January in bed with the flu. Was just glad I was well in march for my implant.

I was on opposite end of decision as yours. I was not living with a limp dick any longer and ved never worked for me. I hated even using it to keep my length. Despised traction. Pills did nothing, and like you was not injecting myself and possibly causing worse peyronies.

Some more thoughts on this:

I am struggling with the decision also due to additional health issues complicating the decision. I have scleroderma which basically causes all of my connective tissue to calcify and harden over time ... which as you can imagine causes all sorts of problems. Little problems like my hands don't flex properly and my skin tightens everywhere - to bigger problems like my bladder stoped contracting and now I need to use a catheter.

But I'm only 53, can still do most things I want and need to do in life, I am othrwise physically fit, and I still REALLY like and miss women. Not just from a sexual perspective I also really miss the companionship, flirting, having fun, joking around ... and sex.

I share your distrust/skepticism/fear of doctors ... especially ones who make money off of doing surgery and like to minimize the risks so you will go foreward. I have been seeing a urologist about my bladder issues ... said we needed to do a urethroplasty to open things up - which we did ... no help. Then said we needed to do a TURP - which we did ... no help. Now wants to try a SIM procedure ... which I haven't agreed to yet. (Catheters are not really that big of a deal in the sceme of things - really just a minor incnveinience.) This is the same guy who sees no reason we should go ahead with the implant.

So I have pressed on the brakes and slowed down. I went to see Dr. Paolone at Univ of Wisconsin ... and feel the visit went well ... He is in no hurry to do the implant, wants to make sure we have tried everything else first. He also referred me to another "super ED specialist" for another opinion without me even asking him. So I like this guy a lot so far ... going to go back to him next week for some more testing.

So right now I am still leaning toward the implant. The scleroderma is a PITA but can be managed. I haven't gone to the bathroom in front of a girlfriend yet in my life and I don't plan to start now ... so right now I'm thinking the cather thing is really a non-issue from a partner's perpective. And I still have enough testosterone in me that my mindset (at least today) is I want to go down fighting and not let these health issues ruin the rest of my life.

So back to Dr. Paolone next week. I will keep you guys posted. It is a very personal desion that absolutely has risks ... so I respect you guys whatever you decide.

Injections are not painful at all and you get hard in minutes. I was on quadmix before before implant. Take your Urologist advice before making any decisions.

I felt the same way about injecting myself.
Uro wanted me to try injections. Thought he was nuts injecting myself in my junk not going to happen.
I used to see the Dr. and I used to take my father to same Dr.
I saw him a several times a year. He always asked me if I would try it.
Told me it was not as bad as I would think. I don’t like injections. I don’t mind them.
I don’t want to be the one administering them.
I meet this woman. I asked her for directions. We where on same bus. We started talking.
Next thing I know she is coming on to me. She was big wig in finance. Told me I would love her house in I think it was the UK. She had another home in Spain. She had a grown daughter on same bus I found out later. She made it that I we where going to have breakfast in the morning. I knew I was working with a wet noodle. After that I had to play stupid. She got up and started walking off the bus. She turned to look at me. 1 last lol like WTF why I was not going back to her luxury hotel suite. I saw the look on her face. I felt less than a neutered dog.
Les than a man and less than anything. She was stunning and long blonde hair.
She was gorgeous. Hair makeup nails and smelled intoxicating.
Monday I called and made appointment to try the Tri-mix.
Dod not work for me. It does help some. 1st time in drs office it was hard to do.
I did it at home. Took about 6 times till I felt okay with doing it to myself.
You do not stick yourself with it. Dr sells you an auto injector.
You load the syeringe. Pull back the injector. Load the needle.
Clean area. Put injector to shaft. Then pull the release.
It automatically injects you. Thier are not many nerves on the shaft.
You do not really feel it. Nerves are in the head.
I could not do it without auto-injector.
Also they use a small needle.
