Has anyone gone for Dr. Eid (or any other doctor) when he was out-of-network? Need advice.

As the title suggests, has any one does this? I have a consult with Dr. Eid this week, but he is not in-network for me. My out of pocket max for out of network providers is $5k (max cost I need to pay, everything above 5k is supposedly covered by insurance). But doing some research online, I found that out of network billing is often a shit show. The comment in the reddit link below explains what I'm worried about.

Has anyone gone out of network, and was still only billed the max out of pocket for their procedure? I'm contemplating if I should go for the consult as it would be a minimum $450 (plus taking the day off) for no reason if I don't end up going to him for surgery. I want to go to the best, but if it's going to be that complicated I might just go with Kramer who is in in-network. (though even he has opened up a private practice now so I'm not fully sure if he still accepts the same insurances )

I went with Eid over Kramer only because the logistics of flying into Baltimore from the west coast were much more difficult than flying into NYC. Apart from that I felt I'd get a good result from either of those two.

Although I was in-network for Eid, I found his office staff to be very knowledgable and transparent about cost and billing. I would think they could estimate your actual costs pretty accurately if you describe your situation. If your max is likely to exceed the $5k I would pass on Eid and go straight to Kramer. No point in getting the consultation either if you won't be using Eid.

I'm just a little wary of calling them with questions about costs even before I have the initial consult, thought I might be wasting their time. Was feeling lucky I live almost equal distance from both Kramer and Eid, if it just wasn't for this mind boggling insurance stuff.

Also I have to clarify that by max out of pocket, I meant that's the maximum cost I need to pay. Anything beyond 5k is (supposed to be) covered by insurance. Except that out-of-network cases are a bit complicated than that.

Spend the 450 to talk to Dr Eid it’s your dick it’s worth the money. No matter whether you go to him or not you’ll have the peace of mind and at your age you need that.
