Small Set Back for Bailey’s 6/18 Implant.

Postby Bailey » Fri Jun 21, 2019 1:13 pm

Had home care nurse 6/19,6/20, & 6/21. No bowel movement for 4 days. After taking otc aids bowels moving again. Home care nurse did a bladder scan and said I wasn’t emptying my bladder enough, & called surgeon who said to put my catheter back in. OUCH! I see the surgeon on Monday. He feels that because I’m 50% inflated is why I’m not peeing well. Nurse said he would probably take the catheter out Monday and deflate the implant. Any of you guys experienced this issue? Not sure I’ll be ready to do the practice of inflate & deflate yet. That would only be 6 days since my surgery. First day wasn’t that bad but the next 3 not very good. Praying that next week my recovery improves.

Bailey: Recovery is not linear. There will be setbacks and leaps forward. Noting you have described seems atypical. Keep Icing. I found that while partially inflated post op. I did better peeing in the shower than trying to bend willie down to aim for a toilet. Even sitting, I would sometime hit the opening between the toilet seat ant the bowl. Don't forget to rinse the shower afterward LOL. You have internal swelling that is probably pinching the urethra. Patience (It will be worth it).

I was inflated 80 to 90 percent. I could pee fine but had to use a quart jar as I couldn't bend it. The high inflation did cause me extreme pain and was on pain meds for 4 weeks. Same pain as when cycling to 100 percent.

Thanks guys, hopefully Monday the catheter will come out & I’ll pee on my own. I’m using ice a lot as I do have a lot of swelling in the scrotum & penis. Like cincinnattius1951 said, the swelling is restricting my urethra. Thanks cincinnatius1951 & oldbeek for your support. Makes Baileys weekend a little easier to deal with my issues.

Hi Bailey: Sorry to hear about your issues but at the same time, you helped me with mine. I had my surgery on Monday 6/17 and I have almost the exact same issues as what you stated. It is reassuring knowing that I'm not the only one having trouble peeing. After going home for 3 days with the catheter, they removed it yesterday. I have to strain to pee but I can get it out now. Pointing your penis up and peeing into one of those plastic urinal bottles helped a ton to get it to flow. I hope your issues resolve quickly. I know they are unpleasant, but the inflammation will pass soon.

Hi baldsurf,
Thank you for your post. Yes, it is somewhat comforting to know there is someone out there having the same issues. I pray that we both can urinate freely going forward, & enjoy our new Bionic Implant in the near future. I’m now taking Tylenol during the day, & Pain pill at bed time. Are you still having any pain? This is day 5 for me, & still have some bruising & swelling. Using ice pack a lot. Which manufacturer did you have implanted? Mine was done infrapubic with the AMS 700 LGX.

Hi Bailey:
I am only one day ahead of you and sorry to say, the pain is still slowing me down. I have weened off the Tramadol during the daytime and I am also taking Tylenol throughout the day. I still take the Tramadol at night to help sleep through the night. Regarding what type implant, mine is also the AMS 700 but I don't know the 3 letters that come after that. Mine was done with a penoscrotal incision. I don't know how much difference that makes in the healing time.

I want to thank you again for your posts. I read a lot of the information before getting my surgery on the Frank Talk Board but I never posted or even joined until after I read yours and felt compelled to reply. I've read a lot more of the posts since yesterday and there is so much good advice for us. I hope you get your catheter out and all goes well.

My AMS700LGX was implanted last Wednesday, June 19. In my case, no problem with pee other than stream seems less than before operation. Pain has been ok except when climbing out of my low sports car. Where does it hurt for you guys ? When I hurt it's mainly at base of penis and upper balls. Walked a mile yesterday, no pain during or after.

My pain is in both the scrotum & penis I think. I’m fifty percent inflated so maybe the surgeon will deflate me today. I still have a catheter in which makes it difficult to tell where the pain is other than where the pump & cylinders are. Vicodin at night to sleep & Tylenol during the day. Sleeping is difficult, however I lay is uncomfortable. I also still have the drain tube in. Hopefully coming out this afternoon. Praying that the pain starts getting less with the tubes gone, & I’m flaccid. The old “Cliche” WTF did I do unfortunately goes through my wife & I’s head since my surgery 6/18. It’s day 6 and so far this surgery sure hasn’t gone like I thought it would. Sure hope all you guys that just had surgery has better success than I’m presently going through.

I was kept inflated around 60 percent for 2 weeks then about 25 percent for another week. Not the most comfortable for sure but it did the trick. Started with 30 or so degree curve. Now less than I had before ed. At 3rd week doc deflated told me to go have fun. Did and still are at 3.5 months.

This is a long term effort. You did not get here in a few months. You are not getting better over night.

Aches are going to be there a while. Those cylinders are not a natural thing. You inflate them they cause trauma. It just takes time to get over it and your body develops tissue to help deal with cylinders.
18 cm plus 1 rte titan installed March 2019. Revision March 2020 by Dr. Andrew Todd, Richmond KY. He replaced the titan with an AMS 700 LGX 18 cm cylinder plus 2 rte for 20 cm total length.
