COLOPLAST TITAN vs AMS700-CX

Postby jjjames » Mon May 20, 2019 1:25 pm

First, thank you all for your content on this site. I've spent quite a bit of time on it for the past couple of months. My Urologist has done over 300 implants penscrotal. I met with him in February about the possibility of doing an implant. When I told him that I understood that the infrapubic method was reported to result in less pain during the healing process and have a faster recovery time, he said that another surgeon in their group was using the infrapubic method and had done thousands of implants. He has arranged for that surgeon to perform my surgery and concurrently use my surgery as instruction to him to learn this method. I am scheduled for the first surgery of the day on June 5th. Their firm normally uses AMS, but my doctor - with concurrence by the more experienced surgeon – will use either AMS or Coloplast devices – my choice. I need to let them know which device to use by thisTuesday, May 21st, when I meet with the more experienced surgeon. Note that they have had some problems with the LGX model, so would prefer to use the 700-CX model or the Titan. I've read that some of you have had an AMS device replaced with a Coloplast and others who have a Coloplast replaced with AMS. Others have had replacements using the same manufacturer. Still others may just have a strong opinion one way or the other. I am 70 years old with venous leak. My wife and I have enjoyed only oral sex for the last 3 or 4 years. With the use of 20 mg of Cialis (preferred) or 100 mg of Viagra along with a cock ring and a Bone Yard band around my penis and scrotum, I am able to maintain a good erection and ejaculation. But I am unable to maintain an erection for successful vaginal or anal intercourse. I have been using a VED 3 or 4 times a week for the last 4 weeks, beginning at 4” Hg for 5 minutes and currently 15 minute sessions at 4” for 5 minutes, 4.5” for 5 minutes and 5” for the final 5 minutes. (My urologist suggested that this would help both before and after the surgery.) At maximum erection using Cialis and the bands, I am 5.5” long and 5.5” around the shaft and glans. I'd really appreciate input and advice from any of you to help me decide which device to use and if I am on the right path.
70 years old, married 16 years, venous leakage, Virginia Beach, VA.

I ve had one Cx and one lgx. Waiting for revision to have another Cx.
The first Cx i had was more rigid while uninflated. Activated the Cx is maybe a little bit more rigid than Lgx maybe 5%, hard to tell the difference.

Lgx offers a shorter appearence while uninflated. If i could choose i would go for a titan but un France they only implant AMS. Due to antibiotic coating (inhibizone).

There is an article which used questionnaires for patient satisfaction. The good news, patients and their partners were happy with both implants !! So you are OK with either !!!!

C
Comparison of the patient and partner satisfaction with 700CX and Titan penile prostheses
Javier Romero Otero, et al

Most widespread three‐component penile prosthesis models are 700CXTM and Titan®. Our purpose is to assess patient and partner satisfaction after the first implant. This is a multicenter, retrospective, nonrandomized study in which all patients who met the inclusion criteria between 2009 and 2013 were included. In total, 248 patients agreed to participate. To evaluate patient satisfaction, a validated but modified 11‐question questionnaire was completed (EDITS); and a nonvalidated two‐item questionnaire was given to the partner. Statistical analysis used an ordinal logistic regression model. Two hundred and forty‐eight patients (194 with 700CXTM vs 54 with Titan®) and 207 couples completed the questionnaire (165 with 700CXTM vs 42 with Titan®). Overall satisfaction was high. Both showed great reliability for sexual intercourse and high compliance with prior expectations. Most patients were able to manage the penile prosthesis correctly within 6 months. Postoperative penile shortening led to some dissatisfaction in 42% and 46% of cases (700CXTM/Titan®). Significant differences were found in three questions of patients’ questionnaire. There were more patients satisfied with the 700CXTM (P = 0.0001). No patient with Titan® implant took longer than 6 months to optimal management. Only 4% of patients with 700CXTM implant were dissatisfied with the deflation, in contrast to 24% with the Titan® (P = 0.0031). Of the two partners’ questions, one showed a statistically significant difference (P = 0.0026). It seems that group 700CXTM would recommend to re‐implant the prosthesis with a greater tendency. The overall satisfaction was very high for both prostheses. The final aspect of the erected and flaccid penis was satisfactory, but both groups showed significant discontent with its final size. Partners’ overall satisfaction was high.

CONCLUSIONS
Given the data in this study, it can be said that in the best possible scenario for a PP implant, the overall satisfaction is very high for both types of prosthesis. And while both groups found the final appearance of the penis, when erects and especially when flaccids, to be satisfactory, both showed significant discontent with its final size. The vast majority of the patients could manage the prosthesis within 6 months or less, and the degree of satisfaction of the partners is high. However, the optimal management of the 700CXTM took longer than with the Titan®, and the dissatisfaction with the deflation was higher with the Titan®.

also, see the below figure for dimensions:

Figure 1: comparison of diameters of the implants. Titan is biggest at 21mm diameter The AMS CX is 18 mm, and the AMS LGX starts narrower but can top out at 18mm.
