surgical excuses for your implant

I'm a oral surgeon and plan on taking a week off from work after my implant surgery. I have read about swelling and new visual hang and partial inflation. I'm worried about visual appearance and have gotten some loose fitting pants to help hide some of the appearances. I'm curious as to what some of you used as excuses to non-partners or family as to what surgery you were or had instead of coming right out and saying you got a penile implant. Needing to build my excuse bag for what is coming up for me in March.

Loose clothing helps alot with the bulge, but you'll still have some awkward walking. My standard response was that i just had a hernia operation. People generally dont ask for specifics , and assume it was in your groin.

Thanks for the question and good answer. I have had several procedures last year so friends, family, and neighbors are always concerned and have many questions and recommendations. But I have one neighbor who would like to take out for a test run if she knew! LOL

Yes, I used the hernia excuse. I suggest be prepared to heard friend and family suggestions on recuperation. And, make sure you are consistent, LOL!

I said surgery below the belt. That generally shuts everyone up. The top two assumptions were hemorrhoids or a vasectomy.

The most curious eventually found out anyway.

In your profession, I would be less concerned about explaining my (medical) absence than in how to deal with the bulge. I have an AMS and my flaccid penis is more apparant than my flaccid penis was before the implant. I was a "grower", not a "shower" (that is, my flaccid penis was about 3 1/2" and full erection about 6"). Now, my flaccid is more apparent (to me, MUCH more) visually (not more than other men of my size who were, my nature, "showers".

If I were frequently leaning over patients (as hygienists, dentists and oral surgeons are), I would be asking how to avoid rubbing up against them. .

I had teeth cleanings by a buxom hygienist. While the experience of cleaning was not much fun (though she was VERY good with my gums-best cleanings I ever had and taught me a lot about dental care, too) her breasts were often intruded on my consciousness. Not unpleasant for me, but if the genders were switched, a man's bulge on a female patient might be problematic.

There are several threads focusing on underwear and jock straps (athletic supporters), some designed specifically for compressing of surgical swelling.

Congratulations on your decision and wishing you good outcome of your upcoming surgery.

As you are going back to work in 1 week, be sure your surgeons healing method is to deflate you after day 3. My surgeon from USC kept me 80% hard for 4 weeks. Definitely could not be hidden with anything. Curious, if you are seeing Dr Goldstein at SD Sexual Medicine. Heal well.

I stand for vast majority of my work but understand why you brought that up. I also have a decent size pot belly so that ends up touch the pt shoulder more often than I'd like, but also learning how to work little farther away. so standing and bulge more concern to me especially after the surgery once i get back to work. Thanks for the suggestions on excuses and the clothing to help, gotta go buy a jock strap. I wear Duluth Trading, bull pen underwear, it has a pouch, as my wife says a package for your package! don't know if others wear that brand and if they recommend it or not. My doctor trained under Dr Goldstein in a fellowship from the Navy. As a retiree, I'm getting my surgery done at the Naval hospital.
