How reliable is your source for that information?

I did hear that the patient was an inmate and he was blaming the corrections staff for him not following the doctors orders.

He blamed the corrections staff that he did not following the doctors order by himself:?

I can understand how incarceration might make it difficult to maintain antiseptic conditions (clean bandages, anti-bacterial cream, etc as well as pain medication which makes it easier to care for oneself). And when an infection begins, slow response time getting the patient/inmate to professional care would exacerbate any emergent problems.

Having said that, the question still remains about the purported fact: Was this guy in custody somewhere, and where, and was medical care denied? And did he contribute to the problem himself or were things not under his control?

Anyone have a case number? Are the records sealed?

Speculation runs rampant. Not a very valuable discussion at this time except as a cautionary tale.

The operation occurred in 2007 according to the story here:
https://abcnews.go.com/Health/man-sues- ... d=16369829
suit filed in 2009
no mention of when the patient was (if ever) was incarcerated
and deportation was "last year" according to the same story. So, two years after the surgery (and subsequent loss of penile tissue less than two weeks later by my interpretation of the story) he sues? Then a year after that, he is deported? Something smells rotten (and I don't mean the subject's genitals).

Even so, this does happen. Whether by medical mistake or patient mistake, we can take a lesson from it.

The issue was that as an inmate he was not given the special attention that an implant needs. By the time it is obvious it's too late. It's all public record in Florida just need the date to look it up.

I found another article. Enrique m i l l a had been living in Miami for 40 years. apparently filing the lawsuit caused him to be discovered. He and his wife were both deported to Lima Peru. the anesthesiologist was acquitted and afterwards he told the Press that the only reason he had been singled out from the team was because he was the only one who had insurance. Milla was seeking millions of dollars in Damages. it said that 9 days after his surgery he contracted flesh eating disease and that's what ultimately caused him to become gangrenous. There was no mention at all of him being an inmate at that time.
There were several other articles didn't read them.

Bummer for him and more so for his wife. Not that I condone people coming into the country (or overstaying a visa) outside of legal channels, but losing one's penis hurts. And then winding up in a country that puts a premium on "machismo" is even worse.

I saw it on one of those internet news pages... the media tends to print whatever they want but I can't think of any reason they would make that up.

Wouldn't you think that when he was returned to the prison they would have put him in the hospital ward for monitoring... Silly me, trying to make sense ?? :)

I suppose I'm just being ignorant. It wasn't me that suffered the loss. but if the article is correct he didn't contract the flesh eating disease in the hospital. He got it outside of the hospital. If that is true then this whole thing is a moot point. Infection happens. And that is why for a week or so after my implant I took a daily alcohol rub down bath in those areas just in case.

and you would think that he would have been prescribed antibiotics upon discharge, right?
