Looking for a Dr in NC, what questions do I ask

Postby needhelp » Fri Jan 18, 2019 6:43 pm

It looks like I'm probably going to be getting an implant. I'm scared. Going to be a life changer. Been looking at Dr's. Has any one ever been treated or heard of Dr Natale in NC. Said he did over 100 last year. Please feel free to in box me if you'd feel better keeping things private. Also how do you find a good Dr? How do you know if there as good as they say? What questions do you ask? Im so scared about losing size. Love to get some feed back.

It's a bit of a drive for you but I saw a Dr Aaron Lentz at Duke Raleigh. I have had zero problems. He installed my implant 4 years ago this month. He does in excess of a 120 implants a year. It is also my understanding that he is a doctor that fixes mistakes that other doctors make.
If you go on the Coloplast website and look at the implant doctors they list, Dr Lentz is listed as a center of excellence.

I took a quick look and they also listed the following as a center of excellence:
Ashley Tapscott, DO
Carolina Urology Partners
9735 Kincey Ave; Suite 302
Huntersville, NC, 28078

He is probably a lot closer to you than Raleigh.
Total ED since a 6/2010 RPA. Pills and injections didn't work. 2nd revision with a Coloplast Titan (24CM w & 2CM RTEs)on 12/15/2022. 68 years old

I forgot to mention, if you don't want to loose size start using a vacuum pump (VED) daily.
The main reason size is lost is from atrophy and the atrophy is caused by a lack of blood flow to the penis.
I had real bad ED for 5 years. The insurance company wouldn't pay for an implant.
During that 5 years I used a pump almost everyday. When I finally did get the implant (new insurance),
I didn't loose any size at all. It did take 6 - 8 months after surgery to recover it all.

Thank you. I did look up Dr Lentz at Duke. That's about a 3 hr. drive. Duke has a great reputation. Dr Tapscott I believe works with that Dr Natale. Dr Natale said he did over 100 last year. That are affiliated with the same group "Carolina Urology Partners". Trying to do my homework. Its hard trying to find out if they are the real thing.

Also I still get an erection but its soft. I've used a pump for about 7 weeks. Did the PShot. No results. I have not been using it that much any more. This whole nightmare has only been since 6/20/2018.

Dr. Lentz preformed my implant surgery on 12/04/2018. I spent one night at Duke Raleigh and went home. There was discomfort for about 10 days, but not to the point of "pain". I recommend whoever you talk to and decide, have ALL your questions ready and don't hesitate to ask including placement of the pump, how he or she will make the incision, type of implant and why that brand of implant is best for you.

I'm in Raleigh, however I drove to Charlotte for 6 sessions of Gainswave therapy. They had no effect. I recommend seeing a doctor soon as waiting only prolong problems and disappointment. The brothers on Frank Talk are an excellent support system. Stay in touch and best success!

Thank you. I appreciate your feed back greatly. Dr Lentz is app 3 hrs from me. Did you have surgery that day and stay that night or did you meet the day before and have surgery the next day. Just wondering of days off Id have to take. What other questions would you recommend I ask. I was thinking of flying to MD to have Dr Kramer do it but I worry about the distance and follow up I'll need. I'll need someone to show me how to work it....ect. Would like to find some one local if they are good and guarantee me I wont lose size.. This Dr I met with (Dr Natale) said he did over 100 last year. I really want to feel comfortable with my decision. I'm petrified to wake up and be smaller. I met with this Dr Natale for a second opinion just one time. Wanted to tell him my issues and see what his thoughts were. Should I go back with more questions? How many Dr should I meet with and how do you find if the Dr is good

Do you feel like you post size? How dose sex feel with the implant? How many time dose it take to pump it up? I'm single so I'm a little paranoid about being on a date for the first night and things need up in bed. Sometimes you don't want them to know at first. I really appreciate this site and how everybody tries to help

I thought I had made a post here but don't see anything I would had written.

Les start with something basic here. The number of pumps it will take to inflate your implant to its fullest size depends on the unit and what the unit has to fill. If AMS still makes their units, as my last doctor told me, they actually require the least amount of pumping. They also have a nasty way of not giving you all your size and more yet your girth. I have had an implant for just over 26 years with several revisions. All but my last was the AMS and YES it worked but after it was all over with on my first one, I lost just over 2 inches and almost no girth, leaving me with the feeling of a pencil dick.

I had an excellent doctor and at the time in 1992 there wasn't much to choose from so I took what I could get. My doctor had talked before hand and he was a good guy. He didn't exactly make me understand how much girth I would loose. We had talked about size some and he was a good old country boy much like me and said I would have more than ample to do the job. He had been doing implants for a while as this was still extremely new. Before my day for the surgery and being rather open minded, he injected my dick to get some idea about the size and he said although he had a fair amount of girth, he felt I beat him. On the other hand he said he was most likely 1 1/2 inches longer than my Ralph.

Let me get back on track. My last implant was a Coloplast and it takes awhile for me to pump it up to my full natural size. I went some 21 years with implants that left me far less than my natural size. The big thing with this implant I have a number of variations in both size and girth. With my first Implant I learned one major valuable lesson, SIZE IS OVER RATED. My last doctor came into see after I was back in my room and he said he had put the second largest reservoir in in his career. In fact it was so large he had to tuck it in my lower abdominal area to the left side and I had enough tubing that it should sit and function just fine. I had to leave it pumped as he had for 9 days which would be my first follow up visit with him.

The point here is, I have learned over the years how to incorporate getting my implant fully hard and functional as I do what I love to do in bed. I now have it to a fine science and Ralph grows as if he was all natural. My first doctor did try something new with me. He didn't rip out all my copra tissue but he pulled the unit thru the tissue so my cylinders were surrounded by the tissue. When my last doctor saw that he said that would be the way he would go. I know if you have had an accident and tissue is severely damaged that may not be possible.

I trust this will help.

In my case I live in Greensboro and went to Raleigh the day before to have pre surgery testing done and then stayed in a hotel near the hospital and my wife and I had a nice dinner. I went into surgery at 11am and stayed overnight in the hospital as I had a drain put in and they like to monitor that.I went with Dr Lentz as I wanted infrapubic approach and he was one of the few in NC that does both types of incisions regularly.Im not sure what Dr Kramer or Edid or any of the other A list Doctors on this site could do that Dr Lentz could not do.He is high volume and also a fixer of botched implants. He also does other urological surgeries and Sits on the board at UNC Hospitals Urilogocal department and teaches at Duke as well.Preaty damn accomplished guy.
ED for 28 years.Used all pills and injections until no other options worked.
