Reservoir Capacity vs. Cylinder Size

Postby navy6587 » Sat Dec 22, 2018 3:42 pm

As always, FT members are there when questions come up when I do not trust the answers I receive from my surgeon's crack team of interceptors. I was implanted on 11/8 with Titan Touch 22 cm + 2cm RTE. When I asked the surgeon, through my patient portal and a nurse or clinician as go-between, what 'cc' size my reservoir was and how much it was filled with saline, the answer came back regarding both questions as: (quote) (questions) number 1 and number 2 are not clinically sufficient but both are 75cc's (unquote). I honestly thought that two 22 cm cylinders would require at least 100 cc reservoir. I CANNOT believe that the surgeon put in a 75 cc res and filled it to capacity (75 cc's). Am I just dreaming or is there a 'dividing line' for Coloplast implantees that designates where the increase in capacity is warranted?

Also at issue is the fact that, at 6 weeks post-op, and having received the admonition after surgery to 'not touch anything down there until you learn how to use it', my pump has grown attached to the extended scrotal incision (4+ inches) that was required because the surgeon also performed a simple scrotoplasty to remove my turkey neck skin. This issue has made daily cycling (that I only began last week) both painful and difficult.

What say you all?

I thought there was only 100 and 120 reservoirs, but I have the AMS and it may be different. If you got a card or paper from the doctor to use when travelling, on the sticker from the reservoir it will say the capacity. I AM NOT A DOCTOR, but if that were my pump, I would be gently tugging it down to the bottom of my scrotum, several times a day. Have a great Christmas. :)

Titan reservoirs come in 75cc and 125cc sizes. There's a long thread about reservoir sizing here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10820
Implant - Dr Eid 12/2017, Titan Touch 20/21cm no RTE, 125cc reservoir

I have a 125 tank 20 cm cylinders and it was filled to 100 cc if I remember correctly you are still trying to get documentation from the doctors that haven’t given you your surgical notes or the information on what they put in. Have they updated you on your request?

in AMS, up to 15cm use a 75cc. Longer use the larger reservoir 100?.. On not touching it is BS. My surgeon said the same thing. Left nut and pump ended up tangled in scar tissue. took 4 weeks of daily soaking in the hot tube working the two apart.

Thanks, all, for jumping in on this thing. I guess there's a difference between Coloplast and AMS. I have officially requested the Coloplast 'sticker' NCR page from the surgi center's medical records department. Don't know when I'll see a response with the holidays upon us. I'm not obsessive about the numbers, I just want them...whatever they are. Dave...thanks for your confirmation...I believe if I have 22's, I should have received at least a 100 cc reservoir. Definitely not 75 cc's...but the way the moron clinician/ nurse/ ?????? answered FOR the surgeon, I'm not believing any of it.

I will continue to try to pull the pump away from the incision but I can't pull it too low. The bulb is already making one side of my scrotum longer than the other (the dividing line for me is the 4"+ incision) and bottoms out whenever I sit down. Just don't want to cause more issues that I'm already dealing with especially since our family is going to the mountains to ski (not me!!). Don't want to wreck the week with a trip to the ER (AGAIN).

I'll wait till I get an answer (or non answer) from the medical records department and then hit the surgeon up for his Coloplast rep's contact info (to see if it matches the one I got back in May that caused my first doc to fire me for asking too many questions). At that point, I don't give a damn what he does. I'm done with him!!

Merry Christmas to all...

Wow 4 inch incision Dr Eid’s incision is less than an inch how he gets all the hardware in that size cut is unbelievable but that’s why his patients cycle in three days and have sex in three weeks. Not giving the patient the information on what was placed is just unbelievable and less than professional I’m sure that anyone that would install a 22 cm Titan would not use a 75 reservoir.
You need to get on them and don’t let up till your questions are all answered .

Dave52...just a reminder that the length of my incision is due, primarily, because of the surgeon's decision to include the scrotoplasty procedure with my implant. Otherwise, the length (more than likely) would have been MUCH shorter. I also thought it was a prudent move on the part of Dr. Ellen to include it (along with others who encouraged me to rid myself of my 'turkey neck'). I could show pics but it's done and gone. No use dealing with discarded flesh or making readers/ viewers feel uncomfortable looking at it.

Off to Massanutten today for Christmas with my children and grands! I want to forget about this for a while...it has already cost me more sleep than I have gotten since 11/8. THANK YOU ALL for your comments and support!!

I agree with you 100%. He has explained the size of the incision and that makes sense. I have seen a video on that procedure and that incision was necessary. BUT, as you say, not giving him the part of the surgical report that has the stickers is unacceptable. If he were to travel, he may have to explain that and he cannot. Finally, at Titan 22 is one of their bigger ones and 75cc is just not going to do it. I have a 15 and my reservoir is 100cc. He needs to contact this surgeon and ask some questions. :)

Larry...thanks for the weigh-in. My quote in a previous post was a response from a clinician who supposedly asked Dr. Ellen my questions: 'what is the capacity of my reservoir?' and 'how much saline does my reservoir contain?'. To me, the questions are obvious. I'm not a math wizard but I do know how to figure out the volume of a cylinder given the dimensions. I can do the math but today/ this week isn't the time. The answer on my patient portal of: 75 cc's and 75 cc's may be correct...only some calculating would probably put this question to rest. What I object to is the secrecy of all the details that should be mine to have instantly! You have a 15 cm with a 100 cc res. You, obviously, have miles of tubing that must be filled.

Anyway, thanks again for all y'alls thoughts and comments. I say again, for possible clarification, that this site is the best for us ED'ers either as strugglers or as post-op'ers.
