Medicare/insurance advice!

Postby Nelupopa » Thu Nov 22, 2018 12:40 pm

I need your help guys!
I can buy medicare part B in December. I've called one doctor's office and they could not or did not want to give me an estimate of what the hospital final bill will be. I was told that the hospital could charge
$ 80,000+ and I will be responsible for 20% out of my pocket. It sounds fishy to me to say the least. When I challenged the amount I was told that the call will be terminated. Sorry to hear that from the front desk since it is the most reputable surgeon talked about on this forum.
I was also told not to buy any other insurance suplement. I am quite puzzeled by the whole thing, but I need your first hand knowledge and sugesstions so I can plan and find the right doctor and use the proper insurances for the implant.
Thank you very much!

With Medicare and a Plan F supplement all your medical expenses for the implant are 100% covered, no co-pay or deductible, just travel and hotel expense are out of pocket.

I don't care who it is... If I had been told that, I would have hung up on them and then gone on every social media I had accounts with and told the world. That's BS.. Who do they think they are? They are suppose to HELP people not threaten to hang up on them. Unless their price is unreasonable, they should have no problem defending it. :x :x :x :x

Medicare pays 80 percent supplement. Pays the. Rest depending on the plan you have. When the hospital sends the bill
To medicare their is a set. Amount medicare pays. It doesn't matter if the bill is 80 grand

You are right Larry, but I realized it was the receptionist and not the doctor. I was really surprised by her attitude and since I had always heard only positive things about this doctor I thought it is better to be more cautious and see advice here.
Thank you everyone! I really appreciate your support!

I guess you now know Medicare only pays 80% and you or your supplement pays the remainder.
Supplements aren't cheap, but I wonder why they would suggest you not get one?
Maybe if they could get $20k from you they'd be happy after Medicare paid a lot less than $60k?
I guess you are just starting Medicare? If so get a supplement for a year and decide if you want to keep it or go to Medicare Advantage.

Supplements can be sticky. They will all take you for them when you first reach Medicare eligibility.
The sticky part is if you decide to switch Supplement providers, they look closely at your medical history.
When I switched awhile back, I only had had HBP and high cholesterol both treated by meds.
They took an extra month before letting me switch.
Shop around a lot because it can be hard or impossible to switch.

Unfortunately the only way to punish employers from keeping bad employees is to "fire" them. Otherwise how do you know that the employer isn't telling them to do that. At the very least, you need to tell that doctor about her. :)
