I'll be going home with a drain but not a catheter after surgery

Postby SeaRover » Tue Nov 20, 2018 9:54 am

My urologist Dr. Carrion tells me that after surgery, I'll be going home with a drain but not a catheter. Also, 1 or 2 days after surgery a nurse will come to my home to remove the drain.

Is that in line with your post-op experience?

I thought everyone went home with a catheter. I'm not complaining mind you.
73. Implant was scheduled for 12/3/18, with Dr. Carrion, Tampa, FL, until I was switched to a rookie surgeon at the last minute without notice or explanation. Obviously, I canceled the surgery. Sorry I picked Carrion in the first place.

My catheter was removed the next morning. The nurse said she will count to three while I hold my breath. She said "one", "two" and yank!

Wasn't that bad, like ripping off a bandaid.

I had to put out at least 200ml before I could leave

I had both. 3 days after surgery they removed my cath, but before they did, she injected saline through the catheter into my blatter, removed the catheter and had me pee right there in front of her ;) . I would not have been able to do that before my implant with my itee bitee dick, too embarrassed  . My drain came out the next day.

Catheder removal was the worst part of the whole thing so far. Then they make you pee before they release you to make sure you can pee on your own.... it stung like a mother for about a week for me. I also went home the next day with a drain; had to come back to have it removed. It was uncomfortable to look at but not painful.

I told my surgeon I didn't want a drain and that instead of driving back 25 miles the next day I would remove catheter myself. I've done it before with 18 prior major surgeries. I awoke at 4am and went in the bathroom and used a syringe to deflate the little ball end holding the catheter in place and slid it out in one fast pull. No issues at all, or even any discomfort.
