"they should make an app for your cellphone. It could be run by an electric pump and the electric pump could be battery operated like a pacemaker is.".

Just add a built-in 3 speed remote controlled vibrator and you'll be all set.

The researchers want to move on to human trials, the doctor behind this, Brian Le, says the regulatory framework is what is causing the delay. Kind of a bummer. Why should it take so long?

The original publication mentioned activation by passing a magnetic device over the penis (which induces eddy currents which heat the metal). However, the device required electric power to make it work. What do you do during a power outage, then? When the lights go out, what is there to do but look for candles and have sex, but without electricity, the implant (as designed) would not be able to activate.

If the implant cools to normal body temperature during sex, it could be as inconvenient/embarrassing as a "natural" E.D. episode, so Larry10625's mention of a positive control is worthwhile. I would prefer not having an app, but using a magnet to activate a subcutaneous switch. Perhaps a ring worn on the finger (so one would be unlikely to lose it). Or on your significant other's finger?!!!

What would you do if you wanted to have spontaneous sex on a beach, away from electrical power? Roast your penis like a hot dog over a campfire? Ouch!

they should make an app for your cellphone

Hackers would have a field day. Imagine all those boners going off simultaneously. Or ransomware where you'd have to call some guy in India to release your dick. One more. How's this going to be powered? Lithium ion? I wouldn't want my crotch going up in flames.

Powered the same way heart pacemakers are powered. Rechargeable through magnetic resonance the same way some implanted devices are charged.

The technology exists for this to happen. Much of the hardware could come right off the shelf tomorrow. Just a small pump and the valving would have to be designed and fabricated.

This is a viable product whether operated by smartphone app or a magneto-mechanical switch mechanism, it would provide erections as close to a natural erection as any device thus far described anywhere I have seen.

My wife has joked that it would be great to have a "clap on, clap off" model! ;)

Yeah, then the vibrator can be for both him and her... what a great idea. :)
