Reservoir space..

Postby Nestor » Thu Oct 18, 2018 9:19 pm

Hello everyone.

I'm thinking an implant might be the only solution I have to lead a normal life. I'll spare the story and just say that I'm on the large side. Pretty big, but not absurdly huge.

Assuming I could get insurance approval, I'd jump on it in a second - but I also have concerns about the reservoir. I'd probably need a 100cc reservoir (maybe larger), and that's basically 1/2 cup of volume to fit in my body. That's actually not a really small amount of space considering your abdomen is packed pretty tightly.

To me it means less space for your bladder and more frequent trips to the bathroom. What's the real-world experience? (I also have some sciatic pressure that is worse when my digestive system is um, more full.. My point being that space is at a premium and I am concerned about stuffing a fairly large reservoir in there)

Appreciate any insight you can share...

I am skinny and only have a 80 cc reservoir. I am currently having some reservoir pain. When it hurts, I pump the saline into my dick to relieve the pain. I go around half the time with a 80% hard on. I also pump it up at least 50% to sleep. Less trips to the toilet at night.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I'm "skinny-fat". I wear a 32" waist but have tons of fat around my abdomen.

You've confirmed my worst fear. To be honest I'm not so worried about having to partially pump it up, but still if you're having issues at 80cc, I'm guessing I'll have even bigger issues.

May I ask - the pain... Where does it manifest itself? I mean do the kidneys or bladder have pain sensory nerves?

Thanks again.

Nestor,

I guess you could say I'm "skinny-fat" too (waist 34 but significant amount of skin/old fat from gastric bypass 15 years ago), and I have had no problems with my AMS conceal 100cc reservoir. I barely noticed it after they installed it and I barely notice it now. The space of Retzius where they place it is co-located with your bladder, so there is room to expand (just like your bladder). The kidneys aren't anywhere near the op site and the bladder has the usual pain and stretch sensors for urgency and voiding.

Your experience will be unlike anybody else's in respect to the reservoir...the doctor will find a good place to hide it based on his survey of your lower abdomen during surgery.

Nestor,
I had significant scars in my lower abdomen and around base of penis after radical prostatectomy. My surgeon could not place reservoir into space of Retzius ( most common placement) so he needed to make second incision of about 2 inches halfway between my umbilicus and base of penis and he placed my reservoir just slightly lower and slightly right of my umbilicus.
At 6 weeks out from surgery, I even do not feel it in my abdominal wall.
I am also 34 most - 36 ( few pants) 6’1” and weight 211 pounds.

Thank you for your response.

When you say you "barely notice it now"... How do you notice it now? I mean you can "feel" it in you?

Or you notice the more frequent urges to void your bladder?

Thanks again :)

I felt it slightly for about an hour immediately post-operatively. I have never felt it again. And I have one kidney and a huge capacity bladder and have not had any problems with an increase in frequency of urination or anything else. Barring any unique physiological issues you may have, it'll be there and you'll never notice it ever again.

I had just 125cc put somewhere, don't know exactly where. I removed catheter today about 14 hours ago. I do not feel it at all, no more urges to pee than before. I am 5 9 and 185.

Can't see why that would be an issue. I'd check w/ a urologist who does a substantial number of implants per year and ask them. I started to develop the dreaded BPH at least a year or so after my implant but didn't have any urinary problems whatsoever beforehand.

ccrider, great to see you here. I was wondering how you were doing when I was in St. Louis a few days ago. My neighbor just had a new treatment for his pee every hour bit that I had never heard of. Took an hour outpatient. He says it improved things and he is doing well. The run a tool up his urethra and it put little darts like mini toggle bolts in his prostate to hold the urethra open. First I'd heard of it and no nothing more about it. Cheers man, be well.
