Info on Phoenix Dr?

Postby SteveSW » Sun Oct 07, 2018 9:47 pm

Does anyone have recommendations or information on a Dr. Shawn Blick, in Phoenix, Arizona? What I can find, for what it's worth, indicates he is among the top (?) implant docs in the country. I'm in Albuquerque, NM and Phoenix is 450 miles away, so not unreasonable trip. Any experience or info. on him would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve.

How did you find out he is one of top implant docs in the country? I have tried many times to get information to help me pick a good doctor. This forum at least has some information and plenty of opinions but on a very small number of doctors.
I don't trust the implant marketing sites.
Married 71 yrs old Implanted 5/30/18. AMX 7oo cx ms 18 cm with 1 cm and 2cm rte. ED for many years. Pills stopped working and injections sort of helped. I sure miss the inch I lost but it works.

bob, It was one of those random physician ranking websites. Which is why I said "for what it's worth." I'm like you, and have a mistrust of much of what is online. I was hoping one of the guys here could offer some insight. Picking the doctor, at least for me, is more frightening than the actual surgery. Steve

Steve, I've been going to Dr Avila at Ironwood Urology.
I'm going to have a consultation with him on the 22d of Oct and hope to get a feel of how he would approach implanting me.
It's such an important decision and I really want it to go right.

From the number of guys who have been implanted, I would hope the vast majority of doctors do it right.
I know we hear the horror stories of when things go wrong.

Let us know what you decide and i'll do likewise.

Tomas, Please let me (all of us) know how your consult goes, and your feelings about the doc regarding the implant. I know I will really appreciate it. Thanks, Steve

When I last saw my doctor, he did a quick cursory inspection of my penis and said he didn't feel any scarring. I've been wondering what scarring feels like and how it impacts the surgical procedure.

I did inject for 5 years +.

Maybe this has been discussed before, but I don't recall.

I just did some research on Dr Blick and did see a reference of him being in the top 10 for implants.
I have heard ads on radio possibly from him.

I guess he is a high volume doc and if things don't sound good for me, I might look him up.

Ratings on my doc weren't good, but they centered on the office staff; not him.

I went to see Dr Avila today.
I told him my concerns and he said all the right things.
I told him I want to proceed with this asap.

I have Medicare and a supplement so there is no problem getting it paid for.
I have to have my GP do the pre-op tests, but don't anticipate any problems there.

We're shooting for early Nov and I really want it to happen then.

We did talk about the 2 different mfrs of implants and I said I pretty much knew the pros and cons of them.
For my needs, I asked for the AMS 700 LGX. He said it would probably work, but he'd have to evaluate things when it happened.

Tomas,
Thank you for the follow up after your Dr. visit. Best of luck, and keep use posted as your journey progresses.

I did the pre-op testing yesterday.
My BP was a bit high, but not excessive.
All my blood work was acceptable.
My EKG was identical to the one I had 3 years ago.

The nurse practitioner said it had the same abnormality as the last one.
That's the first time I've heard that and it must not be serious.

They sent the results to my uro and I hope we can get this going asap.

I didn't like seeing Dr Blick having multiple offices like a chain operation.
I wondered if he did all the surgeries himself, but I'm feeling more reassured by Dr Avila.

Stay tuned and I'll post updates.
