Incision bleeding

Postby kosh200 » Sun Oct 07, 2018 10:58 am

Hey all,

I’m kinda freaking out a bit. I over four weeks out, I was activated two days ago. Yesterday while cycling, my incision opened up about a cm. I called my MD on call and he told me to apply pressure and have my wife who is an RN. Place a steri strip on it. I woke up and it is still bleeding very slightly. I’m going to make an appt for Monday but until then, I’m laying low. Anyone have this happen to them?

Kosh;
I did but, it is possible that there could be some oozing as well as a little blood... that is completely normal. Keep applying ice to reduce swelling, use Polysporin on the wound and keep an eye out for infections signs and symptoms - increased pain, increased swelling, increased redness, fever (fever is a late sign... this is BAD) Take care :)

kosh,
I am sorry to hear that which is kind of late to get open.
We had surgery a day apart from each other, mine healed well and stiches started falling off and dissolving in second half of 4thweek. I still have 2 scratchy tips trying to dissolve, one on my scrotum and one on my suprapubic incision.
My scrotal incision was not stitched neatly but healed well.
Just keep it clean and dry and try to bee seen by your surgeon.

Hey Kosh,

Just wanted to lend support. From reading other posts and my own personal experience, I wouldn't worry too much about the incision eventually reclosing itself and healing up just fine. I have had unclosed wounds from finger surgury (long story) that healup up just fine. My key worry woyld be infection prevention - something I am sure your wife can advise you on. Maybe that on-call doctor can get you an antibiotic precription real quick ... I take a preventiative antibiotic every day due to my finger wound.

So, went to the MD yesterday. It was a hematoma under the skin that surfaced when I was cycling. No sign of infection, no puss, redness, soreness. I have to expel the blood at night and clean with hibiclense

Today, though, I got body aches and an oral temp of 99.6. I got a flu shot on Saturday and my wife had body aches two days ago. My incision still has no pain, redness, puss. Should I be concerned? Please advise.

Also, I forgot to say, he gave me Cipro and I’ve been on it for 24 hrs.

Generally you need 100.6-101.5 before there is concern. I am no doctor but 1 degree rise after a flu shot would not seem scary. My concern there is usually vaccinations are not given while on antibiotics or for up to 10 days after else the antibiotics will keep the vaccination from working. Watch for redness or warmth down there. Sounds crazy but I use a $7 point and aim heat gun. My normal skin temp is 95. When I had the infection in my arm at the dye contrast site a month ago, it was 4° higher at that spot. Cheers man. Glad doc said you are looking well. Those places usually heal from inside out.

When I had my first implant, the doctors at three different hospitals told me that 101 was a "low grade temp" and not concerning. They told me that 104 is where they are concerned. I thought when I hit that number that I was just Hot Stuff :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
