Cost of a Top Surgeon

Postby Hawkman » Wed Oct 03, 2018 11:35 pm

This might be obvious but reading some posts I am not sure it is. Medicare generally pays for implant surgery if you have failed at other treatments (and you are the only one to determine if that is true) or after a prostatectomy. Bottom line it is not difficult to qualify. Insurance is another matter since some insurance requires you to use a doctor that is in- network. The best way to tell is to call a surgeons office. They can tell you quickly if they are covered by a particular insurance.

If you are covered by Medicare and have some sort of supplemental insurance then your implant can often be next to zero cost to you. That is true whether it is your hometown urologist or Dr. Eid or Dr. Kramer or any other doctor. The only extra charges will be travel or possibly lodging but if you get creative you can minimize those expenses.

Yes, very true. With traditional Medicare and supplement Plan F my medical costs were covered 100%. The travel, hotel, meals were on me but were tax deductible as medical expenses. Total cost to see Dr Eid was probably around $2k.

Warren, did that include a long round-trip flight?

The price included half of a business class roundtrip flight from the west coast, I had enough miles for the return. The lie-flat seat is essential for the return and I was able to sleep with the catheter still in, never had to get up. One reason I choose Eid over Kramer was availability of lie-flat seats out of Newark but not Baltimore. Thanks again to Tangerine for the advise on lie-flat seating.
