usable length of implant

Postby Bubba1956 » Wed Oct 03, 2018 8:05 am

Hello Brothers,
I was talking to Michelle a week ago about my upcoming implant. She assists the doctors in the operating room. It is my understand that this person actually brings in the implant with her to OR. She was telling me that approximately 1/3 of prothesis is hidden inside our bodies. She also said that there are these type of assistants in all AMS implant surgeries. I don't know about you ,but I think that this gives me more assurance of having the best implant possible and less problems. Having said that it tells me a person must take total cylinder length plus extenders and divide by 1/3. This dimension should be approximately the length that protrudes externally that is usable. I don't know how accurate this is, but those who have had their implant may be better to prove this. I thought that this might be helpful information in solving this issue of length concerns. I will have first hand knowledge after October 15. This my surgery date.

Don't get caught up in the math like I did. Just read some of my posts. Embarrassing. Search DougAnd for a good laugh.
ANS does send their RN to the surgery. Her job is to assemble the prosthesis. Mine lied to me to convince me to have the surgery but oh well.
In my case it is about 50% inside and 50% outside. That is counting my scrotum as being outside. When you check in fill out the paper for your surgical notes. They will mail them to you. That will help you see how much is in and how much is out. If you haven't already done so insist on having the LGX not the CX. Why? Because with the CX you are forever stuck with whatever you get. The LGX keeps on growing in length and girth for years to come.
Just a suggestion. Good luck

Bubba, she told you wrong for certain on at least one point. No high volume doctor that does hundreds of implants a year has an AMS representative in the OR. They are skilled and experienced enough that they do not need them. Dr. Eid goes into the OR with his same surgical team every time. None of them work for the implant companies. There are a few anesthesiologists that do rotate.

You might have a wonderful outcome, but it will not because the doctor feels he needs a company rep to be in his OR during surgery. That is a sign of less experience, not more experience. A very experienced surgeon will go into the OR with several implants. He will take more than one model to make sure he has the optimal fit. He can only speculate what size you need prior to surgery. A surgeon that does 300 or 400 a year can guess pretty close but they still have to go go in and measure you. When they do, they still have to go to another implant at times. In fact, at times they have to go to another implant after putting one in to get perfect sizing. Less experienced surgeons do not do that. They make what they have work. If they take one size of one model then they often have to stack Rear Tip Extenders (RTE's) which has significant drawbacks.

I wish you the very best outcome but I want you to be very informed as well so I take the time to explain what I would plead with someone to explain to me.

your thoughts may be valid , however I am a person who cannot afford those high volume implanters. there is none in Michigan that take medicare. She would not lie

Thanks for explaining that you cannot afford the travel to a high volume surgeon that accepts Medicare. Many people do get great results with surgeons that have less experience with penile implants. I hope you will be one of them.

To be clear, I made no judgment as to whether she lied. I said what she told you is incorrect. There are not AMS reps in every OR that implants AMS devices. That is a fact. Whether she is misinformed, lied, or misspoke, or even if you might have misunderstood her is for someone else to decide.

I wish you the very best outcome with function, size retention, and fast infection-free healing. Keep us posted.

I'm not saying this is BS but I need more information to believe this. I don't mean from a few of the LGX members that have some pretty amazing numbers.
Married 71 yrs old Implanted 5/30/18. AMX 7oo cx ms 18 cm with 1 cm and 2cm rte. ED for many years. Pills stopped working and injections sort of helped. I sure miss the inch I lost but it works.

My AMS rep was a surgeon himself and he always assists my Urologist in the operating room. FYI only 3cm of my 18cm AMS CX is fixed. The rest is inflatable.

Yes, it’s a common estimate. Ballpark estimate only. You can add in a lil for your glans if it engorges.

You can gain size with any model implant. Key word can not will.

Donnie, how could you only have 3 cm fixed when you have the fixed 5.5 cm RTE's plus that does not inflate plus the fixed portion manufactured on the rear of every implant? Are you not referring to the RTE's as fixed even though they don't inflate?
