Revision same as replacement?

Postby smphead » Sat Sep 01, 2018 6:36 am

Hi Folks,

Maybe a dumb question. But i hear a lot of talking about revisions.
Does revision means the same as replacement. Or do you need after the first after about 15 years a replacement and during those 15 years between some revisions?

Thanx

From the posts I have read here the two words are used interchangeably. A revision can be replacing the entire device, but it may also be just replacing a faulty pump, etc. on the other hand when you hear of a guy getting a replacement, it means the whole unit.
I am 64 and had ED from a VL. Implanted by Dr. Ronald Anglade in Atlanta on 9/18/17. I have an AMS700LGX 21 cm via a Penoscrotal incision. Very happy with results. 6" soft and 6 3/4” x 5 5/8” hard.

@greg1956 that makes sence, thank you.

Are the costs of a replacement the same as the initial procedure?
I ask this, because my health insurance won't cover.

My two "revisions" have been complete replacements. My first implant and first revision were (mostly) paid by Humana. My second revision (mostly) by Medicare. If I were footing the entire bill, the cost of the 2 revisions would be less the cost of the Titan implant, which has a lifetime guarantee (I think). Otherwise they were just two more surgeries.

The pain and healing time were much much less for my revisions. First doc really botched it. Perito fixed it but each time you "lose a little something".

Good luck!

Both coloplast and ams have a lifetime warranty. If you need a revision, the cost will be the same as the original, minus the cost of the device. Device cost is in the ballpark of 8k. Of course this only works if you go with the same brand of implant for your revision.

I had a replacement because my first implant wore out after 12 years. Nothing was wrong with it, so I would not call it a revision.

Why would they replace it if there was nothing wrong with it?? :)

Larry,
David said it finally wore out after 12 years of use. He meant nothing went wrong within it’s expected lifetime.

Yep, I just tried to pump it up like I usually did and nothing happened. A couple of tries later, still nothing. Doctor said a replacement would be the best bet, so that's what I did. :D
