Well I am now having a total nightmare.

I had revision surgery last week to swap a poorly fitting Titan with an AMS. When I woke up from the operation I was told there was a complication due to the previous cylinders being crossed. This involved an extra hour in surgery and an incision down my shaft to correct this.

I went for a checkup yesterday this was 8 days post op. Dr Ralph explained that they had difficultly placing the cylinders. Which is why the other procedure was carried out. I then asked him if he performed the whole operation as I had made it clear that was what I was consenting to before the surgery ( I had already had 2 failed operation's within the last 12 months)

It now transpires he didn't do the whole procedure he wouldn't elaborate as apparently he didn't have my operation notes. Beware anyone having a procedure done at UCLH - This is a teaching hospital and I now believe the training of surgeons comes above the care of patients.

I have emailed in requesting my operation notes and asking for a full transparent disclosure of what happened and by who.

I now have everything to lose and wish that I had just put up with what I had.

Dr Ralph looked at the stitching which was oozing slightly. He said that shouldn't be happening and gave me a course of 2 different antibiotics that I should take for the month. He said if things didn't clear up in week I should come back in for IV antibiotics. He also said to go home and bath the parts in salt water.

Doing this has made everything more worse - opened up slightly.

My wife is driving down with the kids to see me, there about 1 hr away now. I am going to A & E after that to get is further assessed and swabbed etc.

Absolutely gutter is not the word. Sorry for anyone squeamish here are the photos.

Bloody hell. What a mess. Did you go private or was the NHS? There must be accountability from the surgeon here if he has not performed the entire op without your consent.

I’m so so so sorry to read and see this.

As a medical professional myself, I can see that you have a definite infection. The colour of the exudate, the swelling and redness are giveaways. Get yourself to an urgent care centre or A&E stat.

As it was done at UCLH, I would, if you have it within you, go to A&E there. For all the shit that you’ve experienced, UCLH is still an excellent hospital and the emergency centre there at the very least, is top notch.

The registrars in A&E will be easily able to look up your notes, liaise with urology and get an urgent plan for you sorted.

More is at stake here now, as I know you know.

Again, I’m so so sorry mate. I hope that the road to recovery isn’t long but once over this infection, perhaps it is time to look elsewhere if at all within your financial means.

I'd be going over the doctors head at this point.

I don't know about going back to the same hospital that did the surgery.

On one hand they might learn of the doctors operating proceedure.

On the other hand since the surgery occured there, the priority might be trying to cover their own ass.

I think you need to do something quickly. Prolonging treatment and allowing this to this to progress further could come back to put the responsibility back upon you.

Now matter what, you will be the one suffering the consequences.

Get that surgical transcript immediately. An email might not cut it, you may need signed medical information release forms before their release of the records.

Go on the hospitals website and term search "access medical records" or possibly just "medical records".

If the cylinders had been "crossed" [ like an X ? ] "previously" [ like over/under the urethra ? ] wouldn't "you" or "he" noticed this "previously". ???

I dont understand how cylinders could become "crossed" otherwise , unless they got "crossed" because of actions of whoever was doing the revision.

It sounds like CYA to me.

You might be looking at an emergency second opinion from another qualified IPP implant [specialist] Urologist.

Regular MD/PCP's don't know squat about penile prothesis and I think some run of the mill urologists dont know much more.

Maybe I'm wrong I dunno.

I am very sorry about this.

In talking with Dr. Eid about infection issues I asked if an implant infection can EVER be cleared up if caught very early. His response was ABSOLUTLY NEVER and the sooner it is removed the better for the patient. Do not let doctors screw around fighting a losing battle for a month or so while things deteriorate or falsely appear to get a little better only to crash.

You should consider starting a “go fund me” page. Every guy that sees this or even hears the story would give to the cause.

You only need to watch a few of Dr. Kramers revision surgeries to realize the simplicity of the proceedure as its designed to be.
