Are implant doctors surgeons??
Checking the backgrounds of several urology implant doctors in the Indianapolis area, I don't see that any have surgeon training. Is it typical for a urologist to do implants without being a surgeon? If so, how would they have gotten training to do implants? How can I learn the competency of any implant doctor?
Age 72, married 30 years, had Robotic RP 8/06.17, non nerve sparing. Lengthy recovery problems after surgery & radiation. On hormone therapy so no libido. Use Trimix with results. Considering implant, concern re painful recovery

By very definition, they are all surgeons. In fact, there are few if any urologists that are not trained as surgeons.

All MDs can do surgery but that doesn’t mean they are Board Certified in specific fields.

Re: Are implant doctors surgeons??
After having been in prostate cancer support groups for many years (with monthly meetings where doctors gave lectures followed by open discussion), I was surprised to learn there that urologists are surgeons. They are (technically, I guess) urologic surgeons.
Urologists who do inflatable penile prostheses (implants) are called prosthetic urologists and have had additional training, I understand.
