Met with surgeon

Postby Rob1954 » Sun Jul 08, 2018 9:37 am

I have been lurking on this site for a few months. I want to thank the many posters on here for giving me the courage to go through with penile surgery.

I used comments from you guys to form questions for my surgeon.

I had a question about size for him. Without examining me at all, he said that he would put an AMS CX 18cm + 3cm implant in me.

For brothers already implanted, what size would I likely be?

I will find out on Monday when my surgery date is.

Thank you,
Robert

Rob: Glad you have made a decision.
To answer your question, there is no ratio of implant size to "distal" (Outside the body) penis measurement. Depending on anatomy, one third to one half the overall length of the penis is inside the body.
Next, it is awfully close to your surgery date, but I would be suspicious of any doctor who has made a decision about what size and model of implant to use without even examining you. You might want to consider delaying the surgery and get a second opinion.

Seriously, If a surgeon had a predetermined model and size for my penis before a thorough examination I would run the other way. Did he base that on your hair color or is that just what he has laying around??? How in the hell could a surgeon guess at penis size of every guy he meets? exact sizing is probably 50% of the challenge of this surgery.

Based on the way you made the statement about him deciding size without even seeing your junk, I would say your instincts are already serving you well. I hate to be negative to someone I don’t know but that really raises a red flag for me and I would at least raise the concern with the surgeon. If they can’t explain that decision to your satisfaction I think you should seek another professional opinion.

Good luck.

Currently with injections I get a 61/2 inch erection. If this is possible with a 21cm. cylinder, then I’m happy.

Thanks Robert

Rob, How many implants does this specific surgeon do per year?

He is limited to 4 per month. He has been doing them for years.

Thanks

Without the measurement done at surgery, how would he know a 3cm rte would be right? My rte was 5 cm. thats what my cruse measured. The tubes are right at the base of my dick. External part is 15cm. Doc looked at me in the pre op appointment and stretched it out and said an LGX of 15 to 18cm would be used. He said we had to measure the internal length at the operation for the RTE. At the operation he felt a 18 was I little long. The 15 will work and I will be back to full length at 1 year. He likes the tubes to be right at the base.

I suggest you go to Dr. Eid's web site and read some of the materials he has posted there. I corresponded with him and Dr. Kramer, both and they were very kind to advise me on some questions I had.

https://www.urologicalcare.com/

I agree with the posts here that suggest you seek another opinion. I would go a LOT further and say that if your surgeon is married to the idea of one particular size, model and maker of implant that you should get clarification fro him on how he determined his choices.

Or, RUN THE OTHER WAY!

If you cannot interview prior patients, if you cannot talk to the manufacturer's representative about this surgeon, if he has not done a fair volume of implants with a consistent team to back him up, if he is new to the implant procedure, has not studied under a surgeon with a good reputation, BE VERY THOROUGH, CAREFUL AND SKEPTICAL.

If he has not studied (and been certified in) Erectile Dysfunction, that is another red flag that should give you caution.

Ask if he will have a full range of sizes on hand before you go on the operating table. Ask both the doctor AND the manufacturer's representative (who will most likely be in the operating theater during the surgery) separately. If either answer is "no", find another surgeon.

If he said his sizing is only an estimate and his choice of CS vs LGX or the other manufacturer's device (Colop0last) was just a guess, and you misunderstood his words, even then, not examining your penis and asking extensive questions of a clinical nature (the nature, frequency and duration of whatever erectile function you currently have and how long this has gone on) testing your testosterone levels and other blood work indicates a cavalier attitude towards the Standards of Care that might warrant a conversation with the American Urological Association or the American Board of Urology.

Carpenters have a saying, "Measure twice, cut once."

You don't get a second chance at your first implant. Do your homework.

RUN ...
... find another surgeon.

No doctor can precisely determine actual size [nor brand or type] needed required for an individual outside of measuring up & down, inside the operating room; after he has performed the corporotomy.

A ballpark guess, 21cm would equal about 4 inches; from my personal experience.
Dependant upon your physical build.
