Surgery scheduled - which additional preparation ?

Postby mr.skin » Mon Jun 25, 2018 9:01 am

Hello,

as my surgery is scheduled with eid in nyc I'd like to ask about the best tips you would like to have had or which seemed to be benefitial directly after surgery.

I plan to stay 10 days in new york after the surgery - is this long enough to be more or less comfortable during a 12-hour flight ?
Any specific underwear you guys would recommend - rn I am wearing the loose boxer briefs /shorts, which are almost as long as regular shorts. Not the best underwear post-surgery most probably.

I read about jock straps - why should I use one of them ?

Other question - you guys think I ll be able to enjoy freshmen s week in university 7 weeks post surgery in regards of being completely active, clubbing, fooling around etc.

playing soccer/ boxing 10-12 weeks after surgery possible ?

Thank you.

Take an odd sock full of popcorn kernels to use for an ice pack. Only leave it on for 20 minutes at a time. We use to suggest frozen corn or peas but after they that and freeze a few times, they become a solid mass. With popcorn or dries peas, they are always dry so this will not happen. Good luck. :)

One of the things you don’t hear much about in a couple pair of soft baby socks. Protects against rubbing in your jock or underwear. Best $3.00 I spent.

Hi.

Bigred's idea of the baby sock is excellent, and Larry's though of having something like popcorn or peas that have been kept in the freezer until you need them is terrific, as well. Some searching here may give you a list of other things to take.

A 12 hour flight at 10 days out is doable, but you may be very uncomfortable by the end of it. I'm 3 weeks out from surgery and spent about 12 hours on a road trip yesterday. By the end I could hardly wait to lay down on a bed and take the pressure off my butt and groin. And I'd been up and down multiple times, stopping to look at scenery and even getting out for a short hike and another time getting into a pool. Make sure you have some pain meds, keep hydrated, and relax as much as possible. You may find that getting up and down a little and walking in the plane is a good idea. Standing and sitting will still be a little painful, but having some time standing will probably be worth it.

I plan to start light racquetball again tomorrow morning, and I think it will be OK, so I think that by 10-12 weeks soccer might be fine. I'm not sure about the activity at 7 weeks.

Good luck with the surgery and the healing.

Thanks for the answers.

I am younger, so hopefully I will recover quicker.

I‘d be glad to hear more tips.

Thank you.

A 12 hour flight? No doctor is worth that and I don't care how good he is or thinks he is. Was there nobody closer?
