absolutely, but i still give myself until end of 2026 to convince them. if not, i will have to fly to get it yes.
I think they refuse to do it because at my age it would take at least 4 devices which is a lot of risk..
… and a lot of money. For all the benefits of socialized medicine, one major drawback is that the government doesn’t like to pay for things that it doesn’t have to (though from what guys here say, private health insurance in the US isn’t much better). I didn’t even bother going through my US health insurance company, knowing that at my age they’d probably balk at the idea (or I’d be stuck waiting through a year of appeals). In your case, I have to wonder if there’s not some Canadian health system policy specifying no implants under 40. Period. I’m not sure how the system works up there though. Maybe there is a lawyer or patient advocacy group that specializes in appealing these types of decisions you could talk to?

After reading your story, one question comes to mind… have you tried intracavernosal injections (e.g. TriMix)? If not, it's a zero-to-low risk that seems like a "what do you have to lose?" scenario.vincentmh wrote:Man 32, (turning 33 soon). Live in Canada (quebec province).

yes but its 20k $ out of my pocket (which i barely have) vs free in canada..
Brother.
Do NOT get an implant for "its free over here" mentality.
The horror stories my Doctor told me of the revisions he personally had to do
because of the sub-par work he's seen is mind boggling.
This is something you want done correctly the first time.
Yes, its probably going to be expensive
You get what you pay for.
Buyer beware.
Good luck.

Damn them doctors that say age is why they won't implant a guy. The age thing does not matter, if one body part ain't working and there is a fix them why won't they? Keep going, tell them you are getting depressed to the point of harming yourself. Yes that's a bit of a lie, but so is the can't do it because of age.
Don't give up!

That's BS. Infection rate is less than 1% IF the doc is competent. (and you follow their instructions) These things last 10-12 years on average, a few guys have had one for 20+ years. Keep at them, don't let them tell you what your body needs.

vincentmh, first, really sorry to hear about your situation especially at your age. A question about your comment below -- who is them ? Meaning, is it the urologist that has the final say/approval for an implant, or, is it a hard rule in the health system that patients under a specific age can't get an implant ? That seems to be a big fork in the road.

Vince
Sorry to hear you have to deal with so much on this. I went through my share of doctors and uros prior to mine. Keep up the fight till you find the one. Search and ask questions, call patients if you can before seeing your next. Hell as long as it takes to get into seeing a doc make an appointment for three of them.
You already have an unsatisfactory Doppler so ask that question about whether the doc has a problem doing surgery due to your age.
Carry on don’t stop.
