It really depends on your situation. For me, fibrosis and scarring from all the injections made me unable to reach full size when injecting. I was just looking at some photos I took after I did injection and it is crazy the amount of malformation that was there. My dick looked really sad and weird. The doctor said I'd probably get a 20cm, but during the surgery he found that was too small after removing all the scarring and eventually put in a 24. Now, it looks totally amazing and much longer than it was with injections. I wonder if this was partly due to using a VED daily for months. If you don't have scarring, it would probably end up about the same between tri-mix and the implant. All I can say is that I'm way happier with the implant than how it was with injections.
My story is similar. Radical prostatectomy left me with no erectile function whatsoever. Never looked like returning. Pills didn't work and my doc wasn't a great advocate for VED use, so I went straight to Trimix injections. Nothing but regret for doing so. By that stage I had definitely lost size from post op atrophy. So erect size was definitely smaller with injections, but very hard and it was fine for PIV sex, when it worked. Between 6 and 12 months I developed scarring/fibrosis and the Trimix only worked erratically. It wasn't much longer before it did not work at all, no matter where I injected. So I gave up and started using a medical grade VED for both sex and penile rehab. Almost useless for sex but it eventually restored my size, however the scar tissue had left me with some curvature. I used the VED aggressively until implanted and haven't looked back. Size is restored and I'm having better sex than ever. But I still have a post op bend related to Trimix use. Scar tissue was removed during implant surgery, but after months of cycling the bend is more exaggerated and is a form of Peyronie's disease. It's not a showstopper for sex and may actually have some benefit with extra "girth", but cosmetically I'd prefer it was straight. Currently doing rehab exercises under my uro's guidance, who says it should straighten over time. I know many guys have no issues with injections but I would never go never go near them in hindsight.
