Some surgeons prefer HSM (High Sub-Muscular) placement generally, there are papers on it if you look around.
The advantages are it avoids any interference with structures in the SOR…large blood vessels, nerve bundles, the bladder, etc. There’s very little to damage under abdominal muscles, and if placed correctly it’s well hidden. It does create longer tubing paths, which could be an additional point of failure.
I’m not advocating for HSM placement, just saying that SOR is the most common placement, but not the only option.
