Moving right along, my surgery is scheduled for Feb 3, in a local surgery center. I get to go home as soon as I am stable from anesthesia. Nurse will come to my house next day to remove bandage and catheter.

At Dr. Kramer's they left the catheter in and instructed me on how to remove it the next morning. I was apprehensive, but it was a piece of cake.

When I got my revision last week at Dr. Knoll's they removed the catheter after the surgery. I couldn't pee to go home, so they put one back in while I was conscious. Damn, it hurt. And it stung to pee for about 2-3 which was longer than I had in Baltimore. I think this is probably because putting it in and out and in and out added more trauma. I did have to go back the next morning to have the nurse remove it and make sure I could pee. I wish they'd just left it in overnight like they did at Kramer's.

Yeah, catheters can be a real pain (!). I've had them several times for one reason or another, and the worst part has been cramming the thing through my prostate (ouch!) going in. Removal is a non-event. I have, however, ended up with a URI a couple of times from catheters. Use of a catheter also drives my PSA up for a few weeks. I guess we men have our problem issues just like the girls, only different. Getting Mr. Peter examined and handled, and getting the prostate checked are no fun, but it still has to be better than having some strange guy sticking his stuff up her vagina. Ecch!
