Hi.

Just saw this. Sorry! I live in Hillsboro and happy to meet some time. Who is doing your surgery and where. It’s imperative to have a doctor who is experienced. I’m 6 weeks since the revision surgery. Other than some of the “deets” they don’t tell you, recovery is going well. Most of the details are in my signature. More than happy to meet.

I live in Portland Oregon area and have been considering an implant for some time now. Given the fact that it is a “no turning back” surgery, I am moving ahead cautiously. Although so many people seem really happy with the surgery and I’m hopeful that I will be among them, there is no substitute for actually being able to see and touch an implant in person. Does anyone live close by, who would be willing to do a show and tell? I would fly or drive to meet up. Like most men who are asking to do this, it seems a bit strange to make the request. However, people on this forum seem be very open and willing to assist.

I sent you a PM.

Good morning, everyone,

Last month, I had a very meaningful experience when a Facebook group member contacted me with questions about the implant. He is a younger man, like me, who has gone through prostate cancer and was looking for honest information from someone with firsthand experience.

We spoke several times by phone, and I answered as many of his questions as I could. As I always do, I also referred him to this group for additional information, perspectives, and support. I have done a few “show and tell” conversations before, and I always try to make the other person feel as comfortable as possible.

After several phone conversations involving both him and his wife, they invited me to their home so we could talk in person. We spent about an hour discussing my experience, the implant, recovery, and what daily life has been like. I explained that it is a medical device and that it is completely normal for people considering the procedure to have questions about how it works, feels, and looks.

We went in a private setting, I demonstrated the location of the pump bulb, explained how inflation and deflation work, and answered common questions about discomfort, pain, and functionality. I also discussed the UroFill procedure I had after my implant.

At one point, he asked whether his wife could come in and ask questions as well. Although that was a first for me, I told him that I was comfortable with it as long as she was comfortable too. She joined us, and I went through the same explanation of the mechanics, pumping, deflating, and the overall purpose of the implant. They were both able to ask questions and better understand what the process involves.

There was plenty of joking and laughter, and by the end of the visit, they both seemed much more confident and at ease. Four days later, they called to let me know that they had scheduled an appointment with Dr. Perito and were now on the calendar for the procedure.

Experiences like this remind me how valuable these Facebook groups and this community can be. Having access to honest information and real-life experiences can help people get their questions answered and make informed decisions with greater confidence.

Best regards,

Tanaka30:
Hopefully he will join FT and share his experience and maybe down the road he can pay it forward by helping others.
Kudos to you for being helpful on a subject that many men can be afraid of.
