Any long term daily users? 10 year plus reliability possible?

Postby anon123 » Fri May 01, 2026 8:45 pm

Just curious if anyone on here is nearly a daily user for more than 10 years and their device is still going strong.
Lifelong ED. Implanted at 31 with Titan. Currently worried about bend / dog ears and how to get it down comfortably in my underwear.

Even 20 years or a lifetime is possible! I’m excited to share the March Titan FDA MAUDE Adverse Event Report soon, and one lucky dude had a breakdown after 20 years. I see 1 or 2 such outliers every month.

And that data doesn’t include those that have had their implants that long and they HAVEN’T failed. I’d say that longevity is unusual, but not impossible. Dr. Hakky told be his honest opinion is that the average lifespan of the device is 8 years, which is similar to what is typical for breast implants.

According to Dr. Wilson, 50% of implants last 20 years or more. Any idea what Dr. Hakky thinks about that?

Well stated, ElbowRoom.

I'd say retrospective clinical data and manufacturer data can also have limitations. They (manufacturers) may not fully capture patients who switched brands. They (clinicians) may also miss the data of patients who changed providers. Some patients are lost to follow-up over time. Others may move to a different hospital or surgeon (lack of centralized registry like we have in orthopedics). Some may have a broken implant but choose not to repair it. Others may delay revision or avoid revision surgery altogether. A patient who dies after 3 years in an auto accident may be assumed to have a functional implant without failure in retrospective studies. We lack controlled studies.

Because of all these, failure rates may also be underreported. This can make implant longevity look better than it really is. So even expert opinions and clinical datasets used in retrospective observational studies should be interpreted with caution.

We didn't specifically discuss very long lived implant stats. I took what he told me to mean if I get 8-10 years before a revision to mean I'm in the normal area of the curve.

Of course, when he said the average is 8 years that implies somewhere around half lasting longer...
