10 Days Away From Implant Surgery
I’ve been lurking for a couple of months, but decided to make an introduction today. I am 66 years old, and have an appointment for a Coloplast implant with Dr. Hotaling at The University of Utah on April 16th. I have been dealing with ED since my 20’s with my first real girlfriend due to a spinal cord injury I suffered when I was 17, and had a robotic prostatectomy for prostate cancer in December 2023. I’ve done the usual progression of pills and shots, which used to work well, until they didn’t. Trimix injections worked amazingly well until 6 or 7 years ago, but since my prostatectomy I don't get much of a response. I have decided to get an implant because I’ve been trying to come to terms with being completely asexual for the rest of my life, but I just can’t. I’m starting to have some pretty limiting mobility issues due to my spinal cord injury, which is making me question my impending surgery and how I am going to manage my recovery. Has anyone else with mobility issues here gone ahead with an implant? My other concern is that I’ve been helping my 93 year old mom out for the past couple of years, and I've been debating whether or not to tell her that I’m getting an implant, or make up some other urological excuse I could give my mom for my surgery other than the implant. Any thoughts? Thanks so much for all of your informative posts and replies!

Re: 10 Days Away From Implant Surgery
As long as the cardiology/medicine clearance says you are cleared for surgery and your surgeon is fine with it, your other health problems have been taken into consideration.
I know of guys here on FT who have an implant because they are paraplegic due to spinal cord injury and they are happy with their implant. It does the same thing for them that it does for the rest of us, makes them rigid enough to have penetrating sex.
And there are lots of guys here who got the implant for themselves. Even if they weren’t in a relationship or their relationship had become asexual, they weren’t ready to never have an erection again. Even if they only used it for masturbation. They still got it and are happy with it.
Regarding what to say about surgery. It’s common for guys here to say they had “hernia surgery”. It explains why they may be walking a little more carefully and some of the temporary lifting restrictions. I don’t see any need to tell someone who does not NEED to know, that I had a penile implant surgery.
Congrats on taking the steps to take care of yourself. Follow all your doctors instructions. Applying an ice packs to the area for the first couple days postop is probably the best advice.
