ICE ICE ICE - What's the deal here?

Postby RigiconDownUnder » Sat Mar 14, 2026 4:41 pm

A lot of guys on Reddit recommend:

“ICE ICE ICE" after implant surgery.

What’s your surgeon’s recommended icing protocol for post-op recovery, especially for folks travelling and staying in a hotel few days following surgery?

Definitely follow YOUR doctors instructions regardless of what anyone else says.

My doctor recommended icing as much as possible the first three days. Then switch to a heating pad.

My dressing stayed on for the first three days. My penis and scrotum were bundled in gauze with more gauze mounded on top of that in a jock strap.

I simply laid a gallon ziplock bag filled with ice on top of the mound and a second long skinny ice pack (about the size of a bottle of wine) between my thighs. I kept those on nearly all the time. All that gauze was a buffer and there was zero risk of frostbite or overdoing it.

And it was really soothing. I’m think the ice helped more than any medication.

Most hotels have an ice maker. Consider bringing a medium sized cooler and fill that with ice. That way you don’t need to walk to the ice machine (or call the front desk requesting ice) very often.

If they don’t have an ice machine, buy bags of ice.

I was explicitly told by my surgeon not to use ice. But I hear different things from different anecdotal reports about what surgeons tell people.

Post-surgery is fairly simple. You want to ice at first to bring down swelling, but once that is accomplished, use heat to encourage circulation.

Google or any AI will have decent guidance for post-surgical treatment. An implant is not much different than any other surgery in this regard.
