Shout-out to Dr. John Mulcahy + What are the next steps after an unfortunate IPP infection

Yes. AI was used to gather the information.
Do you find anything wrong in the science described here?
T1 Diabetes. Progressive ED after a motorcycle accident. Rezūm therapy for enlarged prostate. On Trimix. Scheduled for Rigicon Infla10 Pulse DIPP via Phantom technique. Grateful to bionic brothers.

No I'm not a doctor, AI could've made it all up and I'd be none the wiser

I would take that info with a grain of salt. I've really been noticing lately chat gpt making plenty of mistakes and still passing them off as facts.

It said there's a 50% chance of success after an infection, that doesn't sound right at all
43, ED since late 20's, Pills on and off since then increasing strengths with inconsistent results. Now 5mg Cialis daily and either 20mg Cialis or 100mg Viagra
Not sure if it's Psychological or Physiological, long-term use of SSRI's probably hasn't helped

Not a doctor.
I wouldn't interpret that figure out of context. The 50% success rate applied specifically to the traditional historical protocol, complete device removal followed by delayed reimplantation, which was the standard long before Dr. Mulcahy in 1996 introduced his salvage technique. The original statement opens with the word “Historically” precisely.

Here's a reference:

Luján S, et al. (2016) — "Local Treatment of Penile Prosthesis Infection as Alternative to Immediate Salvage Surgery." Sexual Medicine, 4(4):e255–e259 (PMC5121535).

https://academic.oup.com/smoa/article/4/4/e255/6956247

"The successful rate is approximately 50% in expert hands, with a high reinfection rate, loss of penile length, and low patient satisfaction" for the traditional removal + delayed reimplantation (vs. 82% for salvage)."

Historically, the standard protocol for an infected Inflatable Penile Prosthesis (IPP) was the complete removal of the device, followed by a waiting period of three to six months before attempting any reimplantation. While this eradicated the infection, it routinely led to severe corporal fibrosis (scarring inside the penis). This dense scarring resulted in an average penile length loss of nearly 4 centimeters and made subsequent replacement surgeries extraordinarily difficult, with success rates plummeting to around 50%.

Thanks for that callout. Point well taken. Not a doctor.

If you go to high volume surgeons, your infection rate is 0.5%.
