Is it ok to go on a 10 hr flight 5 days after surgery?

Postby KaBoom » Thu Feb 26, 2026 2:49 pm

Looks like I will be doing the overseas private clinic option. Both for the reduced wait list for me (over a full year to wait locally) , and cost. Just got laid off recently so thats a consideration. However the doctor/clinic I am looking at does this procedure about 200 times per year so the know what they are doing.

But how soon afterwards is it ok to go on a long haul flight? 5 days ok? does the high pressure in the cabin affect things, or does the urination in the week after make going on airplane cumbersome?

Just want to make sure I plan this properly.

I see talks where doctors say you can go back to work within days, so maybe it's fine. But just want to vet it here from you guys who have lived it..
56, Mild ED started 20 years ago, Pills very effective for first 12 years. Then High Blood Pressure made ED much worse. Pills inconsistent now. Dont like needles. Planning IPP now, probably Rigicon Infla10 AX, to be done overseas.

good question, first of all it depends on your surgery and recovery, in any case it seems quiet early to me. at least I would book business if affordable, but I could not have flown with a privat jet after 5 days.
don't forget its not only the flight, to get to the airport, to move at the airport it can all be a real challenge and a lot of pain. even with good recovery I would give it a week. where are you planing to get it done?

I got an MPP which actually, I think certain parts of recovery are a bit harder than IPP. I think I waited like 10 days? Or something before traveling home and it was a short flight. It was very uncomfortable even at the stage. But that was just my experience.

I think there’s also the question of what is medically safe vs comfortable. I’d check with your surgeon on their opinion.

Richard makes a really great point here too - for me, moving through the airport was NOT easy. But I do think everyone has different pain thresholds and tolerances.

thats a point I forgot which Johnny mentioned, medically safety, the risk of complications and damage. If you are traveling alone I would for sure give it a few more days. I travelled after 12 days with only a short 2 hours flight but it was pretty uncomfortable with balls size like a grapefruit. In any case book a wheelchair and let you get pushed through the airport and skip the security line with it.Even more important if you have a stopp over and change flights.

I flew home about 14 hours 2 days after surgery.

Clavell gave me a nerve block so flying wasn't too bad. I booked business class but the flight got cancelled and they rebooked me into an economy middle seat (great). It still wasn't too bad.

For urination, i advise you to buy a plastic urinal. I took it to the airplane bathroom, peed in it, emptied it in the toilet and washed it with water afterwards.
Peeing standing was difficult to aim inflated and I didn't wanna have my incision anywhere near a public toilet, so the plasic urinal was great

Guys thanks for all this fantastic feedback.

I am looking at getting this done in Turkey, I discovered they are a epicentre for Penile Implants.

The clinic has assured me I should be fine, but I might tack on an extra day or two sightseeing then.

Thankfully I am not a frequent pee person. I might be able to swing the flight with just 1-2 bathroom visits. And will ask for extra pain killers along the way, and definitely bring that portable urinal thing.
