I decided to get an implant.. What do you think of my doctor?

Postby macoza » Wed Feb 18, 2026 12:15 am

I know I've bugged you guys with many questions on this forum. But I did so to make sure I'm making a good decision. Right now I've decided to get an implant. I'm planning on getting implanted with a doctor who has the following attributes and need your opinion:

This doctor has:
- 10 years of urological experience.
- 8 years of penile implant experience.
- Coloplast’s “Center of Excellence (COE)” for penile implant surgery.
- Director of men's sexual health at a major hospital.
- He told me he does 40 - 50 implants a year.
- A doctor who does a bit more implants than him highly recommended him.
- Performs penoscrotal surgery

Btw, the surgery is free given my insurance. Based on these factors what do you think of this doctor?

With this surgery you need to find the most experienced surgeon you can find. I checked out a surgeon in my area who was listed in The Center of Excellence and did 49-50 implants per year. During the consult he told me that I would lose size and I would have floppy glands. To me that was totally unacceptable.
I decided to go with Dr. Clavell. He probably does 40-50 in a month. The outcome was fantastic. No size was lost and no floppy glands.
It's your body and you can decide for yourself. Once it's done you'll be stuck with it.
Age 74 Implanted 01/02/2024, Dr.Clavell AMS LGX, Ed for almost 20yrs. Cialis tried caused vision loss, Trimix also caused vision problems. Married 36 years.

Floppy glans

When your cylinders get sized up to the glan, instead of into the glan leaving your penis's head completely soft, without support, and just literally hanging. Makes it look ugly and hard to have sex with, basically defeating the whole purpose of implantation. Many lower volume surgeons size their cylinders up to the glan for some reason.

Search the forum for "floppy glan". There are pretty descriptive pictures from poor members that got stuck with them. This is the first question I ask when interviewing a surgeon: "how do you size your cylinders: up to the glan, into the glan, or to the tip of the penis?" To me this is the most important question because it also points to surgeon's general philosophy, and how seriously they take implantation part of their practice. I had no luck so far. Have 4 more appointments coming up before I'd be ready to give up and consider out of state.

Say, I read somewhere on the forum that Perito sizes his cylinders all the way to the tip of the penis. Is it really so? Would be interesting to hear from actual Perito implantees.
64 yrs old.
atrophied to 4" erect.
ED since about 2000.
Edex but moving to Trimix.
Implant doctor shopping now.

I have a Rigi10 malleable - Dr Hakky in Atlanta strategically undersized me by 5mm to mitigate erosion risks (the highest risk complication with malleable) but still got the implant sitting PERFECTLY in the glans, not too far, not too short.

Since you’re implant surgeon shopping, you should definitely check him out if you haven’t already. If you’re going IPP (I assume you are) he’s VERY high volume and highly regarded.
33 yrs old. ED since high school. Pills always hit or miss, mostly ineffective. Finally diagnosed with venous leak in early September 2025.
Rigi10 MPP 11mm rods 20 cm with 0.5 RTE.
Implanted w/ Dr Hakky on January 20, 2026. Recovering.

So what is the right answer for an IPP?

The best answer you would probably get is by consulting a high volume surgeon like Clavell or Hakky or someone else. I don't think they would mind giving you their opinion.

My local urologist does 60 implants a year but I'm not going with him
55 years. Using bimix 0.4 units. Works well but inconsistent and very inconvenient. Seriously considering an implant. 6.4 inches bone pressed length to tip, 5 inches girth base, 4.5 inches girth mid-shaft.
