Well, I saw Hakky again yesterday. The Seroma had returned to its previous size. Hakky drained it again, but said I’m probably just delaying the inevitable. Seromas are apparently notoriously hard to resolve. He’ll recheck in a week, but expects we’ll have to book an OR and do a “wound cleanout”.

The cleanout involves making a very small incision, flushing out the seroma, then using a cautery to heat the inside of the seroma capsule to seal it. Finally he’ll put Vancomycin in the capsule to ensure no bacteria can grow. He says he’s treated four seromas this way and all have resolved as a result.

There is a danger during the procedure that the implant could be damaged, if so the procedure transitions to an immediate full cleanout and revision.

The first time he drained the seroma the fluid came out reddish and clear. The culture showed insignificant trace bacteria. This time when he drained it the fluid was still reddish, but cloudy. He said he wasn’t too happy with how it looked, but we’re waiting on the culture for that one.

So my surgery was in October, I’ve been able to use the implant maybe 5-6 times for sex, and now I’ll be in complications hell for a while. Sigh.

Elbow, I’m sorry that you’re having to go through this. One thing to be thankful for is that you didn’t travel a long way to have your implant like a lot of guys do and you’re right there in the Atlanta area so Hakky can take care of this.
I hope that he can fix it without damaging your implant and not have to do a revision.
I guess we’ll know in about a week if you have to have surgery to have it fixed.

Praying for you Elbow,

ElbowRoom, man I am really sorry to hear that. Sending prayers and best wishes for a quick and easy recovery. From what you've described the most likely outcome is a straightforward procedure that gets you 'back in the saddle' very soon. Wishing you that.

Hang in there - i know this isn't greatest outcome and even with the best surgeons who can experience some obstacles. But you can be confident that Dr hakky will eventually get you taken care of and using the implant to its full potential. Wishing the best for you.
